This book addresses many things that make kids giggle about their bodies. It also addresses things like lice, ringworm, and bad breath in a non-judgmental way. Finally, it drives home the “cleanliness kills germs” point without being didactic. There is a good mix of technical/medical terms with common/scatological ones. Kids will understand and be entertained. The drawings are kitschy and cute, and appropriate for the intended audience. The font is easy to read. The mix of font size and color adds flair without being distracting. This book is written for third graders or below. Yet, it would not be too babyish for up to grade six lower level readers. The book addresses a non-fiction topic in a fun way that will engage students. This book would be a terrific supplement to school science and health textbooks. I would recommend this book. It was an enjoyable read for a rather unpleasant topic. Non-fiction is not my favorite genre, but this book was not a bitter pill to swallow. In the past, I would have categorized it as an optional purchase. However, many school districts now have new health education guidelines that would be supported by the purchase of this book. In fact, I am the chairperson of our school School Health Index committe, and the topics covered in this book directly related to goals established by the committee earlier in the year.
