What would you do if you knew how you would die, but not when? The body of a young woman is discovered washed up on the rocky shores of St Mary’s Island. The remains are identified as those of Chelsea Birch; a girl with a troubled past and a line of work so unusual the suspects are many. With the emergence of a second corpse at a local beauty spot, and a third killing in Newcastle City Centre, Detective Constable Ryan Jarrod becomes convinced a serial killer stalks the streets of Tyneside – but it’s a line of enquiry which fails to garner support. When Jarrod and DCI Stephen Danskin learn one of the victims has high-profile connections, they suspect a cover-up which runs deep to the heart of Government. With the assistance of his girlfriend, DC Hannah Graves, and a few trusted colleagues, Jarrod and Danskin set out to unearth the truth. As the murderer accelerates his pace, Jarrod discovers the killer is playing a game with his victims. It’s a game he must also play, and it’s a game of high stakes. Should he lose, more innocent women will fall victim to the one known as The Lighthouse Keeper. Think of Ann Cleeves or LJ Ross with a gritty, urban twist - that's the DC Ryan Jarrod explosive crime fiction in the mould of traditional dark thrillers. What people are saying about the Ryan Jarrod series :'As good as James Patterson' 'Unputdownable' 'A real page-turner' 'The best books I've read all year' 'This series has the makings to be my favourite by far' 'Excellent twists and turns. More Ryan Jarrod, please.'
Very good and plenty of twists and turns with story line about Ryan and Hannah personal life. There no graphic details on murders unlike some books but you get a ideal on how they died but the suspects are plenty throughout until the end and it’s a surprise on who it is but no spoilers as you have to read it yourself. With violence against women in real life this will be hard for some to read but if you read to the end you find you get some satisfaction. Overall the series is excellent and starting the next one.
This is the first of this series I have read, and maybe I should have started at book 1 instead on jumping in at book 3. The book was OK. It has interesting characters, but I felt the ending was rushed as though the author had a publishing deadline to meet and rushed the ending to make it. I'm not sure I'll read anymore of the series, but I may read Book 1 later.
The Lighthouse Keeper is yet another of Colin Youngman’s books featuring the north east of England. I do enjoy the storylines but is it really necessary to have the names of each street named? St Mary’s lighthouse is such an iconic building along the coast to the north of Whitley Bay and is the setting for this book involving undue influence, murder and greed. Looking forward to beck No 4 .
Another great story in the DC Ryan Jarrod series featuring all the characters from the previous books. Well crafted and written and more enjoyable because I live locally and know all the areas mentioned. Please keep them coming.
Love these books and, being a Novocastrian makes the settings so well known. Good stories and good characters. Three down and only one to go, unfortunately. More please.
I'm on book 3 in 2 days. .. really love the series so far , it's really growing on me , characters are great, I will keep reading as it's really good .
A great book. Very well written lots of twists and turns. Love that I know the places he is writing about. Bring at in newcastle and surrounding area. Can’t wait to read the next one
Really good story line and still interesting continuing to get to know the characters. Detailed information about the crimes, but just enough to leave the rest to your imagination. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to the next book.
