Wow, this book was way better than I expected! My pastor’s wife wrote it, about the biblical allegory hidden in Song of Songs, but I always saw it as a purely sexual/marital book. But I truly believe it’s both now. The devotion of the bride to the groom and vice versa is a beautiful representation of what a marriage should look like, as well as how the Bride of Christ (the Church) should interact with Jesus our Bridgroom. This is the ultimate love story; a biblical love story is the only real and true love in this world. May we all strive for it, stepping out in obedience to encounter the Lover of our hearts. May we trust Him with the maturation process.
Such a clear, practical overview of the Song of Solomon. Jennifer Roberts takes the seemingly difficult to understand concepts of the Song of Solomon and not only teaches them in a simple manner, but shows how they have directly applied to her own life. I’ve studied the Song of Solomon for years, yet I loved the simplicity of this book. It is an excellent resource to help introduce people who are unfamiliar with SoS to the beautiful story and to demonstrate the relevancy of it to our lives. If you want to familiarize yourself (or re-familiarize yourself!) with the Bridegroom who pursues and who is actively engaged in bring forth maturity in your life, this is an excellent place to start!
The Journey is a fascinating take on Song of Solomon, on its face, but in totality, walking a mature, Christian walk, that is pleasing to the Father. Where as most Song of Solomon/Songs books fall on either the literal or allegoric side of the fence, this book freely admits to believing it is both.
That said, it was personal, vulnerable, relatable, and perfect. Full of theology, personal antecdotal experiences, and instruction for walking it out.
In a short phrase, it is a guide for Christian spiritual maturity, using Song of Songs as a guiding document, and providing Biblical insight for ideal heart position.
Meaty, and while it was hard to put down, I'll need to go through a second time, to really chew on some of the ideas presented. A fantastic read, no matter where you are in your walk with Jesus.
