This richly illustrated new book by Victor Escandell is devoted exclusively to the infinite creative possibilities of drawing and painting in black and white. Traditional and current materials, techniques and applications (Indian ink, pencil, pen, bamboo, water-soluble graphite, different types of felt-tip pens for various supports, grattage) are described clearly so that readers can experiment with what they have learned and develop their creativity with a range of materials. Víctor Escandell is also comfortable working with gouache, ink, charcoal, pen and pencil. With this book, the apparently simple and limited combination of black and white acquires a new level of expressiveness and drama. About the author

Renowned illustrator Victor Escandell was born in Ibiza and graduated in Graphic Design from the prestigious Massana School of Barcelona. He has worked for companies such as MacCann-Erickson, TBWA, Bassat & Ogilvy and most of the Spanish national newspapers. In 2007 his work was selected for the exhibition of Catalan illustrators at Frankfurt Book Fair. He is the author of A Wonderful World of Animals, Dinosaurs and Sweet Monsters of the World.

A good introduction of different mediums that can be used to highlight the contrasting tones of black and white. It shares examples through multi-step images for each medium eg. Watercolour, markers, gouache, graphite, ink, pen, and many more.
