‘Entertaining and educational’ – Independent on Thank You, Baked Potato
Matt Lucas is known for his comedy acting such as in Little Britain and, more recently, for his presenting in Great British Bake Off. This book is a silly (another Amazon reviewer said strange) story about a potato Santa and how he is well loved. There is a charity music single out in 2020 that has Matt Lucas singing the words of this book, and the music video is worth watching online if you want to know what this book is like in its entirety. Plus watching that when you have the book means you can sing along (or at least read along). That for me is worth four stars, but if it were the book on it's own then maybe it would have been less because of the strangeness of the story for the target audience.
Merry Christmas Baked Potato essentially transforms the Santa we know into a baked potato. This comical switch around is what made me purchase the book. A couple of years ago I bought this book for my little brother who is obsessed with potatoes and he laughed quite a bit when he unwrapped it on Christmas day.
This book is both funny and chaotic as we see Baked Potato take to the sky on Christmas Eve delivering presents to all of the little children as everyone expresses their love for the jolly fellow in the sky. Not Santa of course, but Baked Potato.
A fantastic sequel to the spring time, lockdown story “Thank You, Baked Potato” this festive tale is more substantial and is very fun to read/sing aloud with my toddler. The song is catchy but even if you don’t know the tune you can read it aloud and enjoy!
