In the Absence of Struggle

Rate this book
As Klu lay sprawled on his mother's dented casket, his back stung as did the reality of his failed suicide at the grave. Maybe his dad was right: Man makes plans, God laughs. Was Klu's hobby of collecting grave rubbings part of a higher plan? Was it God's hand that drove him on a quest to the largest tree in the world to restore what was wrongfully taken from his parents? And was the derecho storm destiny, when its mass outage freed Klu to break into the Father of Our Country's tomb and steal him as a travel companion? When the heart attack took his father 15 years earlier, Klu thought God robbed him of life's instruction book. But maybe God's plan was for Klu to write his own.

This book was so inspiring and the story was so different from other fiction that is written today. It is thoughtful yet easy to read. It was my perfect pandemic read and one of the best fiction books I have ever read!

Really enjoyed this novel about a young man (Klu) searching for meaning in his life after losing his parents. The book is well-written, and the author's use of language makes you feel like you're in the scenes along with Klu. Vivid descriptions of the national parks in the western U.S. add to the richness of the story. Through the story, the reader develops a connection to Klu, and I found myself reflecting along with him as he makes his way through his journey. Highly recommend.

OK...I'm cheating being the author, writing a review. But I hope you'll click the Amazon link for the summary and sample chapter. Discover why Klu Karkut, after falling into his parent's grave, takes an RV trip out West and why he steals a Founder Father's body as company for the trip.
