Dr. Thomas W. Hilgers draws on decades of medical experience to provide educational and revolutionary insights into the world of women s health. The NaPro Technology Revolution provides real solutions to real problems such as infertility, repetitive miscarriage, menstrual cramps, postpartum depression, PMS, prematurity prevention, ovarian cysts, hormonal abnormalities, irregular/abnormal bleeding, chronic discharges, polycystic ovarian disease, and family planning. Hilgers sheds light on abnormal ovarian function, an issue that millions of women unknowingly suffer from. His methods have proven to assist infertile couples nearly three times more successfully than those who use In Vitro Fertilization, without the dangers of early abortions, frozen embryos, or high rates of multiple pregnancy. The NaProTechnology Prematurity Prevention Program cuts the rate from the national 12.7% to 7%. The NaPro Technology Revolution discusses what every woman has a right to know about her body, her health, and her future. Author: Thomas W. We all know I love a good medical exposè. Hilgers' issue with infertility is the lack of answers and the costliness and, to him, borderline ethics of the medical community's answers to some of those problems. He's also a staunch Catholic. If that matters to you.
I liked a few things about it. It delves into some fertility issues and questions that I had never thought of before. And, for his time, all the info about tracking your cycle was not as often spoken of as it is today with our snazzy apps. And, as a woman who was older when she got the opportunity to have children, I appreciated his scorn of the medical community's requirements for a diagnosis. Luckily, I had a female health provider who had a daughter in my position and didn't wait the required year to figure out the answers to my questions. And, as odd as his obsession over cervical mucus was, I learned some stuff I hadn't known.
Suuuuper curious to see if there are any other studies that back up his points on PPD.
I didn't like the repetition (the constant bold type on the names of the methods included) and it could have been a bit shorter without missing any info. I was also a little surprised that, for a man who didn't like pills because of the side-effects that might tag along, he didn't address diet in the PCOD/PCOS chapters. Diet has been a HUGE factor in managing that. But to each his own.
Also was slightly bothered that he doesn't really take thyroid health into account.
This book was very helpful and educational. I was particularly interested to learn about the relationship between progesterone and premenstrual bleeding, recurrent miscarriage and preterm labor. Dr. Hilgers lays out the research and information gathered from using the Creighton Method for fertility clearly and makes it easy to understand. This is unfortunately not a how-to book, but it gives evidence for using NaPro Technology teachers and assessment to find the actual causes of infertility instead of blindly treating without diagnosing the cause of infertility. I would recommend this book to anyone experiencing infertility issues.
