What if reality as we know it wasn't what we knew it to be? What if the stories of the past were changed by one small detail? However, that one small detail being one that would change it drastically! In these illustrations you will discover that the ethnicities of oppressors and oppressed have been reversed. This has been done in order to open the mind of the viewer to...WHAT IF? Throughout these illustrations the Caucasian race is placed in African-American experiences to bring clarity to all who fight against understanding our stance against injustice."Walk a Mile In Our Shoes"
Bought this book from the author in National Harbor, MD. Had a brief conversation with him about his experience creating this book. I greatly admire his creativity and this important contribution he’s made to the world.
In the Epilogue, Walker writes, “In this book, I purposely switched the polarities of the African and Caucasian Americans to allow Caucasians, and any other race, to put themselves in our place. In doing so, it is my hope that they will look at my people’s history and the effects of said history from a different point of view. Then, perhaps, a measure of understanding can be gained.” Walker achieved that goal with me, and I’m sure other readers, as well.

I ran into the author selling his book when I was leaving the African-American History Museum in Washington DC. The group of people in front of me ignored him so he said to me "if they knew I was famous they would've stopped." He then told me a bit of his story and showed me his book. The text looked interesting as did the illustrations. It is a thought provoking book worthy of the "What if" in the title. When Mr. Walker offered to autograph the book he asked my name. When I told him "Marcus" he asked if I was sure since he said I was the first white Marcus he ever met.
Like everyone else on good reads I ran into the author 😂. It was a quick conversation but I loved hearing how he got to writing this book and was excited to read.
I really appreciate this book and how many topics it brings up in such a short amount of pages because having just come out of high school I can say I haven’t even learned half of what is in this book and I learned a lot from it. I also love the art! I just wish there was more to read.
