This book is excellent for someone who has never heard of Hygge before. I believe if I was that person, I would have given it 5stars. However, there are LOTS of editorial issues that sometimes made reading confusing and as I am familiar with the importance of decluttering and the basic idea of hygge...I didn't receive any new information except for the Danish history which was of interest. However, I do have to say that reading this book has helped me get re-inspired to add more hygge in my life!
I enjoyed this author’s way of introducing Hygge. First there’s an explanation of what it is and then there’s descriptions and step by step suggestions on how to achieve Hygge in your own life and home. An easy read!
I'm taking it slow. Stress is not part of Hygge. But as soon as a few days I felt more love, less isolation and the happy side effect of feeling happier/contentment. It isn't a long book but it's full of everything you need to know about the subject. I obviously highly recommend this book. :)
I’m very interested in the topic, but will look for a different book on the subject. I didn’t get past page 10 because I felt like I was grading high school or college essays rather than a nonfiction book for adults.
I really enjoyed this! The lists and challenges were great and had some fun ideas. The graphics were delightful! All of it! I love Hygge anyway, this just made it better!
The author gives an easy to follow guide to finding one’s way to living with more hygge from every day to holiday. Enjoyable read with plenty of examples.
I’m really interested in Hygge but will probably pick up another book about it. There were tangible action items and ideas, but it was written pretty informally which just wasn’t my jam.
As someone who has intentionally been trying to live a Hygge life for a few years now, I thought this book was so cute! It was organized amazingly. Easy and concise, very helpful guide to getting started and introduced into Hygge. Super easy quick read with very specific advice. Had me highlighting for days! I may buy this as a coffee table book to match my other Hygge book lol.
I read this book only to the beginning of chapter six. I disliked the very term-paper style of writing, the grammatical errors, and the general handling of the subject. While not quite poorly written, but far less than exceedingly well-written, this supposed manual to living a Hygge lifestyle seems to be focused on material goods being bad and clutter as some sort of moral failing.
We’re expected not to spend money on Things, but have only certain Things that give us happiness, comfort, or "hyggeness".
I stopped reading where it said that a low score on their “hyggeness test” means you’re headed for a mental breakdown. As someone who struggles with mental illness I found this hellaciously offensive and just plain wrong. While there is some merit to having a clean home, sometime reality differs from desire.
So, to the DNF pile, she goes.
Maybe someone else will find this helpful, but Hygge isn’t going to stop me from being depressed. Medication, therapy, and a good support system will.
