Theirs was a love to last forever. If only they could remember it.

Anna Harper has no memory of her old life. Or even of yesterday. She’s alone, pregnant, and in a foreign country, but none of those things will stop her from investigating the mystery of her unusual ailment. She’s determined to explore every clue, whether it be a whisky company that bears her name, or a handsome man who shares her problem.

Smith. Whisky. Newcastle. With his mind wiped by a pernicious potion, Quinn remembers little beyond those few words. All he knows is that he’s captivated by the outspoken dark-haired beauty searching for answers. And he’ll do all he can to protect her from the enemies bent on stopping her.

As Anna and Quinn join forces to unravel pieces of their past, they uncover a tangled web of deception and betrayal. Only Anna’s keen insight and Quinn’s steadfast spirit can lead them to the truth. And only the yearning of their two hearts can revive the love their minds have forgotten.

Will their love pass the test of oblivion ...

When I agreed to read this book, I had absolutely no idea which kind of story it would be, outside the amnesia trope and an historical background.

One thing is sure, I would have an enormous error if I had missed this book.
The pages flew by, the words struck me and the actions sucked me in.
I was so riveted to the story, I read it in no time, so eager to learn what new challenge Quinn and Anna will have to face.
As it is my first read in this series and by the author, I just followed the lead given by the blurb.
Yet because of the use of potions and steam vehicles, this book flirts as much with fantasy than steampunk, I just loved it. I have read very few steampunk stories, but it did not felt like one, more a historical romance with a dash of fantasy.

Anna is quite a heroine, not once did she let despair overtake her, she fights, thinks and solves. She uses her analyzing mind to put all the pieces together plus her guts to lead her when she had doubts.
Quinn is a gentle soul, protective but confortable in his manliness to accept a woman can be cleverer and more pugnacious than him. He is honorable and for his lady love, he would go to the end of the earth.
They together complete the other perfectly, he shields her, she fights for them both.
Their love is one who has been designed to endure and last, whatever is thrown on their path, they bounce back stronger than before. Together they are a force to be reckoned why evil persons want to tear them apart.

The only sour note is they needed to much time to uncover who was behind their attack. I know it is due to the amnesia thing but I would have loved to see them confront the villain hand in hand, to plot their way out a bit earlier.

I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

A fresh and clever take on the classic amnesia/second-chance romance tropes. Fast-paced, funny, adventuresome.

What a fascinating concept! A young woman wakes up on a ship and realizes she doesn't know where she is or who she is. She finds a name on a piece of paper in the trunk in the cabin she is in, so she now knows her name, Mrs. Anna Harper. She finds that she is not the only person on the ship suffering from memory loss and upon going ashore is introduced to some additional people with memory loss. There is one man who she is immediately attracted to, Quinn Smith. Together they set out to discover who they are and what is happening to them. Their journey is fascinating and you just have to love them both. A fast moving tale that keeps you pulled in. 4-1/2 stars. I received an ARC for my honest opinion.

Anna Harper is alone and pregnant, and yet she cannot remember who the father of her baby is, why she finds herself without a husband or how she ended up in Esbjerg, Norway.
But she is not alone, Quinn Smith also has no recollection of anything before today and so together they join forces to solve this mystery.
But from the first moment they meet, they are drawn to each other, they know each other and just maybe they already love each other.
And so this very clever, twisted plot is revealed slowly, carefully and with great skill in a way that only Catherine Stein can achieve.
Anna is a wonderfully practical, and intelligent character, beautiful and outspoken with a penchant for gloves, while Quinn is handsome, kind, encouraging and heroic.
Do they succeed in getting to the bottom of this betrayal, will they find themselves and each other again and will they have their happy ever after.
I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderfully engaging story. It was detailed, descriptive, humorous, emotional and passionate with strong loveable characters.
Catherine whips up a storm in yet another of her deliciously captivating tales.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Amnesia plots aren’t my favorite, but given the parameters of the Potions and Passions universe, Love at Second Sight proves to be more delightfully bonkers than infuriating, yet simultaneously played in a perfectly straight and serious manner that makes it work perfectly well.

With so many mysteries surrounding who they are and why malicious enemies are after her, the story is constantly engaging. And even without their memories, Anna and Quinn have an electric chemistry that had mr rooting for them, even as more and more obstacles piled up against them.

I do feel that the “double amnesia” discombobulation made it hard for me to connect with them on the same deep level I’ve connected with some of the previous leads in the series, but this is a common issue I’ve had with the amnesia trope, where the character has a lot of uncertainty in their identity for a significant portion of the book. But that’s more of an issue with the trope itself than the book, and Catherine Stein does her best to shake it up and make it work for the most part.

This is another fun installment in the Potions & Passions series, and even though it’s not my personal favorite, I still really enjoyed it, and think anyone who loves steampunk/gaslamp/historical paranormal romance should pick this up.

Starting off with a wild premise - double amnesia - which actually is plausible in this world/situation, Anna & Quinn are such fun to have an adventure with, and so much in love. Really wished this had a sequel bc I wasn't done hanging out with them!

I can no longer remember how I discovered Catherine Stein and her magical victorian world of Potions and Passions, I can only say I can hardly get enough of her novels. Her stories have a different twist, they entertain and make you think at the same time and the good time you spent reading her novels lingers on in your mind just like the taste of a good wine would linger in your mouth. I'd rather not share details of this book and let you discover it on your own, just know you are wasting every second you wait to pick it up.
