Colour Of His Soul

Rate this book
He had met his match from heaven, loved her without reservations but fate decided otherwise. She was forced to marry a prince while he was left to pick up his broken pieces. Moving to Cape Town was the best decision he ever made. He met Samke.
Samke was not looking for love, all she ever wanted was that medal from the Comrades Marathon but she got more than what she bargained for
Their love is extra ordinary as Samke is not any ordinary woman but a woman living with Albinism. Will they work or will they go their seperate ways was the question people asked.

September is Albinism Awareness Month, show some love to that neighbor, colleague, friend of a friend and even your church member who lives with Albinism.

What is Albinism?
"Albinism refers to a range of disorders that result from a reduction or absence of the pigment melanin. These vary in severity and often causing white skin, light hair, and vision problems" medicalnewstoday.com

Refrain from using the word " Albino" , the correct way is to say " a person living with Albinism"

Some of the themes covered in the book :
Love
Royalty + arranged marriage
Albinism
Sports
Friendship
Marriage

I enjoyed reading this book because not only it gives an insight of how people living with Albinism survive almost everyday from being called curses to being treated differently but also because it shows that they are normal regardless of how they look in our eyes, they provide everything and more as " normal" people .I love how the author actually got her research from a person living with Albinism into assisting with writing this book.

This is Carl's journey who's life became sour when he had to let go of Monica, the love of his life who he was ready to start forever with when it turns out Monica is Royalty therefore their relationship was null as she was arranged to marry a crowned prince.

He tried to pick himself up and move on, start afresh and then he met her...
Samu, a young successful woman who is navigating life while living with Albinism, from insults to weird stares, being mistreated at work and how her birth created a drift within her family because her mother died while giving birth to her.
She has always been caged by her father growing up but he is also at a point where he needs her to be strong and fight her battles.

I love how Samu overcame her fear of dating and lived a little, trying to explore new things which resulted in beautiful friendships.

I felt that Carl was always struggling with the right words to say to Samu, he didn't want to say things that will come across as insensitive to the woman he's trying to build relation with.

We follow their journey as it unfolds into something extraordinary, of course with lots of challenges now and then but love conquers all right?

Best line in this book, is the Strength of Samke(living with albinism), from being called nasty names in the work place,to beating her fears to date, to being a silver medalists athlete, to wife and a mother. I learned a lot. People living with albinism are also humans and they deserve to be loved, they don't want our sympathy but they also need to be treated like "normal people". We need lot of books who talks about these issues because as Blacks we still see people living with albinism as a the curse, as the stepping stone to wealth, hence they are killed for witchcraft purposes. well done Author on that line.
