Enjoyed Gages rescue of two young boys. A mean bad rancher is using a young girl as a slave practically. The girl comes up missing. He hears of Gage’s exceptional tracking skills and hires him to find the girl which he calls a runaway. She leaves a pretty good trail of deception, but of course Gage is too smart for that and to her demise, he’s well on his way to find her. On his trip through the mountains, he comes upon a mountain man by the name of Hopkins and they team up together. Lots of adventures with Indians, grizzly bears, snowy narrow trails, and steep ravines. Thank goodness, Nathan Gage is a honest, fair minded person, and the truth comes out at the end—of course with a little bit of shooting here and there.
Annie was the victim of abuse. She was treated worse than a servant. Finally one day she disappeared. Gage was hired to find her. There was one outlaw, a group of enemy Indians, the rancher and his evil ranch hand chasing them down. Gage helped the young couple. There were a few surprises.
Wayne C Winkle has the knack of a good story. This was my 5th of his books and every story has been different (not formula stories) and thoroughly enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Loved this novel! Nathan Gage makes a great western hero, with skills and determination that puts him in a place of awe in what he can accomplish! The author has done a great job putting the reader in the middle of all the action!
This story concerns abuse of a female, Indians, grizzly bears, mountain man, and an evil rancher. Cleanly written with gun play and a chase through beautiful country.
Suspense and surprises. Great example of survival in the wilderness. A great read. Another example of how cruel the west could be for children and women.
