Sand Dancer #2

Fire Walker

Riots in the streets. Assassins in the palace. Armies on the march.

The Fire Walkers are paying for their freedom with their blood.

For centuries, Fire Walkers have been locked away in temples for the sin of being born with fire magic in their veins. At last, they are free.

But when a king is assassinated by fire magic, the people demand war. And the ruthless Prince Ravel sees his opportunity to seize the throne and rid his kingdom of Fire Walkers forever.

Mina Arlbond, the famed Sand Dancer who disguised herself as a man to win freedom for the Fire Walkers, is ordered to personally lead her people to the slaughter on the front lines of war. Instead, she races across the kingdom to unmask a conspiracy that threatens to tear apart three great nations—and blame Fire Walkers for the chaos.

When she discovers a chance to prevent the war and end the oppression of Fire Walkers forever, Mina must decide how much of her soul—and the soul of her people—is too much to sacrifice to stop the violence.

New fan!

Read the first 2 books in this series and even though we are barely on the verge of spring, I am wishing fall was here to read the next book in the series! Such a good story, excellent character development and great detail. Following so I can snatch up new books as they are released ❤️

I really enjoyed the second book in this series - more than the first I'd say (though that was still a really good book), I think because we've already seen Mina grow as a person, and the worldbuilding has been well and truly established.

In this second book, things sadly aren't as simple as they might have been given the changes implemented at the end of book one. Fire walkers are still ostracised and treated with disdain. Mina must once more stand up for the rights of her fellow fire walkers, and finds herself in a position of power to do so in this book. But that comes at a price - she has to make difficult decisions (not giving away any spoilers) and also try to convince those around her (some allies) that not all fire walkers can be blamed for the actions of a small minority.

One thing I realllly love about this series is the author's ability to write good (and by good, I mean horrible) villains. Prince Ravel remains as dislikable and arrogant as ever - and now we have another smug prince to hate too in the form of Prince Wulfhart. Always very satisfying to have such frustratingly horrible arseholes to root against.

I look forward to the third instalment in this series :)
