A Short Introduction to Abraham Kuyper's Lectures on Calvinism
In 1898, Dutch theologian and statesman Abraham Kuyper (1837–1920) presented a lecture series on Calvinism as a life system at Princeton Theological Seminary. His six talks covered Calvin’s teaching on politics, science, art, and religion as well as Kuyper’s application of the doctrine for his own day and into the future. This brief book summarizes the lectures and provides commentary that invites twenty-first century readers to follow Calvin and Kuyper in walking in submission to the Lordship of Jesus.

Kuyper's lectures are a great little introduction to Calvin, and this book is a great little introduction to Kuyper.

I have read Calvin, but I have not yet read Kuyper on Calvinism. This book by Jesse Sumpter introducing Kuyper on Calvinism made me want to read Kuyper. Really. I especially appreciated Kuyper’s take on Calvinism & science and Calvinism & art. Sumpter shows that Kuyper was an insightful author, and summarizes Kuyper’s lectures with concision and clarity.

Great companion to Kepler’s lectures.

A good measure of a book like this is that it makes me want to read more Kuyper. It's a summary and outline of his lectures, but also serves as a collection of key quotes. Many of the trends Kuyper identifies are modern and relevant, 120+ years ago later. Well done Mr. Sumpter.
