classic - and classically frighting. the text gets a little rough (this poor cat!) but the ending is happy and the drawings are absolutely lovely.

I used to check out this book at my elementary library, until it burned down back in 05'

It's is the only book that I was really bummed out about losing. I honestly never thought I'd find another copy since it was published back in the 60s. Turns out that my college library had a copy of it via interlibrary loan!

Its as good as a remember it.

An interesting story of a cat's struggle and redemption.

Iconic and expressive illustrations go well with the book's simple prose.

I picked this up in a junk shop today on the strength of the Peggy Bacon illustrations. I love her pencilled cats. This slight story of a cat born in an alley yet destined to be a little girl's companion is delightful despite its predictability. Bacon drew cranky old tomcats like nobody's business.
