I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, all opinions given here are my own.
I found the idea of the book very original and unlike anything else I have read previously. The author excels at writing flowing and vivid descriptions of combat and really seems to capture the feel of warfare along with some of the grimness of it as the plotline does go into some pretty adult themes.
The plotline has several twists and turns, I didn't encounter difficulties following it but I certainly wouldn't have been able to guess what was coming next at several points throughout the book which I enjoyed.
My main critique would be that whilst the vast majority of the people and items are richly described the clothing is quite often skimmed over so I sometimes found it a little tricky to picture the characters.
However this is only a small point and I would definitely consider reading other books by the author in future.
