A passionate historian fighting to save a landmark, a desperate single dad threatening to tear it down, and the attraction neither of them expected...

Single Dad, Heath Jameson, is the gorgeous, kind, impossibly stubborn contractor tearing down the farmhouse I'm trying to save.
We're enemies.
I draw the line there.
But Heath keeps crossing it.
Over and over again.
Slowly, I start to forget that he's arrogance personified.
I start to fall for it. Him.
The construction boots. The long hair. The smile.
And then, to make matters worse, I start to fall for his adorable little girl.
This tiny family fills the big, dark hole in my heart but, as the battle for the farmhouse heats up, all loyalties are tested, and I'm left with a brutal choice.
Can I keep my heart and my career?
Or will I have to give up one to save the other?

Be My Reason is a standalone BWWM enemies-to-lovers romance featuring a sweet little girl, her hot single dad, and the feisty black woman who drives him wild.

Heath and Brenna

I liked Heath and Brenna together and their chemistry was so believable. Heath was a good father and had a very good relationship with Glory. Glory was such a smart, sweet little little girl and I liked her relationship with Brenna. Heath's parents were crazy, but I was glad we finally saw some progress with that family. I'm just glad Heath was finally able to have his simple family.

Be My Reason was a little different than th other books in this series for me but I loved the difference.
Neither character could handle complicated, so Heath made sure they kept it simple and made the main thing (them and Glory) the main thing. And although the entire time the ate each others opposition in ther careers, they don't let it over take their relationship. They also never tell those closest to them all the aspects of their relationship, which I feel kept them from having a major break up they would have to then repair.
So in the end the relationship actual became simple. Heath wanted Brenna and he wanted to protect Glory, Brenna wanted the farmhouse preserved and didn't want to lose Heath and Glory. Identifying what they wanted made everything else fall into place.

What can I say

I'm enjoying the Make it Marriage series so far even though am out of order with the books in this series. But each character is interesting and I can't wait to read more. This was a interesting family relationship with Glory, Heath, Kastle and their father and mother Amelua. Hope to read more about them in future books with their soon to be wives.

It's Not That Simple, Until it is. . .

Real love never asks you to compromise who you are. It makes room for what is important to you and to who you are. It simply asks that you recognize those same things in the one you love. That you be present in the time of need. Heath could see from the beginning what was truly important, even though he had pressure coming from all sides that made it more challenging to find his way. He never stepped down from being the best provider and support he could. He recognized in Brenna a real partner, even though they were on opposite sides, they were still the perfect pairing. Heath provided a safe harbor and allowed Brenna room to challenge, question, and grow. When their worlds collided Goory, their community, and their surroundings all benefitred and grew exponentially. Fantastic read. Nia never disappoints.

They became each other's reason!

It took me a minute after buying this book to crack it open because I was in the middle of reading another book and then a pre-order was added to my library. Sigh, I digress. Once I cracked the cover of this book and began to read I was hooked solid! The more I read the more I fell in love with Heath, Brenna, Glory, Kayelyn, Kastle and all of the Make It Marriage ladies and Glory's caregiver MS. Mercy. I developed a profound dislike for Heath and Kastle's parents the mother who used her family members to garner fame and fortune for herself and their dad for being an all around cheating scumbag. Things came right in the end and I love the forgiving heart Glory has as she decided that she would rather keep her brother as her dad instead of her real dad who turned his back on her when she needed him most. I thoroughly enjoyed this story very, very much!!!!

Falling in love in spite of your past

Well crafted story with flawed characters who heal through love. I enjoyed their journey but I wish Amelia got what she served for all the hurt she caused.

same issues as previous books but still entertaining story

Great chemistry with the leads, appearances from previous couples and Glory was adorable, as usual, though this book suffered from some of the same issues that pop up in previous installments: SPOILERS BELOW

misnaming recurring secondary characters from previous books (like the nanny getting a new name or Steph getting misnamed a few times), a character being addressed by the wrong name (Amelia calling Heath Kastle), the central conflict getting a magic wand at the end instead of finding a real solution or having any consequences (the issue on Heath’s side was bigger than just money to pay Glory’s hospital bills: his client also threatened his professional reputation and his employees were worried about their jobs and checks but that was all forgotten in the end)

Only thing I specifically didn’t care for was the hint at a brush-over redemption for Heath and Kastle’s mother at the end. Not everyone needs a redemption arc and she’s still a racist manipulator who was threatening Kastle with his adoption, was microagressive to both Kaelyn and Brenna, and has not issued a single apology to anyone for anything she’s done. Her being “lonely” in the isolation she built doesn’t warrant forgive and forget treatment and although I get that it might make sense for an 8 year old like Glory to act the way she did out of innocence and naïveté, I didn’t appreciate Brenna and Kaelyn, whole pro-Black African diaspora historians and victims of her abuse as well as girlfriends of other victims of Amelia, leading the charge on that. I’m noticing that kind of “brush it off and forgive without earning it” treatment for a lot of the antagonists in this series and sometimes it taints the ending for me. At least the dad is starting to tangibly earn some of his forgiveness by paying the consequences for selfishly kidnapping Glory and taking baby steps to re-earn Heath’s trust.

This book is ridiculous. So Heath is caring for his sister who thinks she's his daughter. Ok, fine but 1) WHO CARES if she knows she's his sister and not his daughter. Seems like this is made to be a MUCH BIGGER deal than it actually is. Which leads me to my second point 2) "My pride won't allow it.". WTF?!? A little girl's life is at stake and you are more worried about your pride??? That's horrible. And ok, you don't want to let her ACTUAL FATHER who is rich pay for her medical care? Fine. But why not her OTHER BROTHERo is also rich?? It seems Kastle would have the same familial obligation that Heath feels he has despite the fact that Heath is pretending to be her father. Instead he fabricates this scenario in his head that Brenna is the one standing in the way of his only option. Bull crap. Needless to say I'm not a fan of this one. Also, ditto what Mercy tells Brenna: who CARES about that stupid farmhouse?? Lol.I

One of my least favorite in the series.

Awesome

This is a unique series! There are stories that will bring smile to your face with lots of emotions. The characters are awesome and their passion burns up the pages with their chemistry. There is a feisty heroine who is so independent that it makes you cheer her on. This series is a pleasurable experience that you will find enjoyable. There are such a unbelievable number of stories that's great to read. It's what happens when a couple meet and they aren't searching for love, but their chemistry is so awesome that it turns into a great love. The characters are so extraordinary that it takes such imagination to make this book a beautiful story to read.

Preserving history is something I wish we had done more!

It was really interesting to see Brenna preserving black history and I'm so glad she didn't give up on the farmhouse to save Heath! It would have felt immoral and he got what he needed from his mother without conforming. It's always nice seeing the gang and having a regular guy instead of a billionaire this time made it a bit more special.

Glory, a Budding Matchmaker!

This narrative was a page turner. The main characters, Brenna and Heath, were believable and interesting. Heath's daughter Glory, turned 8 and was going on 40 as she was quite sagacious. The plot was interesting as well. I loved the imagery and other descriptions that the author used to weave a nicely written tale. I enjoyed reading it.

We are family!

Another MIM winner! Loving this ever expanding series of beautiful , intelligent and driven Black women finding their perfect matches with men who love and support them unconditionally! So happy for Glory and her dad gaining Brenna as part of their family! As always, I enjoy the cameos from the matchmakers & their spouses! Keep the HEAs coming!

Very unexpected

As much as I love BWWM romance novels, I’m always sceptical when it says it in the title because it usually ends up being so cheesy or badly written but it was not the case here. I loved it from start to finish. My only criticism is the sexual scenes could have been written better but I still gave it 5* because it was such a great read and didn’t put me off

What a rollercoaster!!!

There is more to life than winning. Especially when it requires you to sacrifice the most precious and people in your life. I'm so glad that love one. It just goes to show that family isn't always blood. Family is the ones you choose to be a part of your life.

Excellent Romance Joyride

Ms Arthurs continues to delight with her skilfully written romances. The characters are well developed and inviting. The story is fascinating and well paced. I love the way the conflict between the couple worked out and brought them closer. I highly recommend this book and series.

Heath and Brenna (3.5 star story)

Met on opposite sides of an issue.

This story wasn't that dynamic.

I did remember Kastle from his story.

Of course I remember the MIM crew but not much about them as individuals.

Love is a good reason

This was my first time reading a enemy to lovers story and I loved every minute of it! Throughout the story I wondered how Brenna was going to have it all; The farmhouse, Heath, Glory, love? Without losing herself or what she believe in our deserve?

Twists and turns

Lots of twists and turns. Very unexpected from the normal plots and stories. Breanna and Heath were very strong characters. Very relatable and likable. I also loved Glory! Her story held my attention till the end! Great job! Highly recommended!

Love the Make it Marriage series. I do think that their "big obstacle" wasn't worthy of building the story around. Heath did make me mad sometimes about how he handled (or didn't handle) Glory's health issues. Brenna and Heath are so cute together though!!

If only

There were more for the loving. The author did a disservice to the characters in this book. The storyline had merit, but couldn’t get it going.

I loved this book so much, too much. The love, the angst, the acknowledgement of black history. I wish the story was longer.

To Love You Is Easy!

Brenna and Heath are good together. I love Heath's dedication to Glory and his company and Brenna's feistiness to preserve Black History with the farmhouse. Loving someone shouldn't mean you have to compromise yourself in what you believe in and when you are doing the right thing. These two dealt with a lot regarding this farmhouse which was an issue between them and the craziness with Heath's no-good daddy and psycho momma. But when it mattered the most, they let their love for one another and their love for Glory be the most important thing to hold onto. This book series has such diversity with the couples and the support of the "Make It Marriage group that you can't help but root for them and get excited at the end when they finally know they have found the person who has their heart forever, and they create a family to love for a lifetime.
