Book- “Celebrating Life” by Rishi Nityapragya

“Celebrating Life” , a book worth thousand lecturer. When I picked up the book and have cursory review, I thought it may have some crude Indian Philosophical excerpts picked up from here and there. However, once I started reading, I was surprised by the thoughtful connect with modern science and Indian Philosophy. Book navigates in realms of logical sciences and other dimensions of consciousness. This book is best suited for middle path seekers. For uninitiated ones, the book is bit too difficult to comprehend and for those who have already traveled a distance in spiritual journey, most of the content are quite obvious. The style of book is very concise without many examples which makes it sometimes boring. Still the matter is pure elixir.
The book starts with dimension of life in terms of time and space then moves forward by defining various aspects of body, mind, intellect, memory and ego. The journey further moves in steps to refine consciousness, becoming free from negativeness and then finally culminates into practice of sadhana and seva.
Overall, the book is worth reading for all who want to explore themselves. Worksheets after each chapters are very useful. A big YES from my side for this amazing book.
I received the book from ‘Indic Book Club’, a very novel initiative to promote books which are connected with Indian culture. I appreciate the initiative and urge all reader to be part of this movement.

This book packs wonderful concepts on how to lead a more fulfilling life in its 180 odd pages. Definitely lives up to the adage that good things come in small packages.

I would love to pick this up again every now and then to glean some greater insight into the lessons mentioned here.

The book: Celebrating Life
Author: Rishi Nityapragya
Published by: Penguin Ananda
ISBN: 978-0-143-45068-9
INR: 299
No of Pages: 196

This book is a quest of, an accomplished professional, who finds the real meaning of celebrating his life. What was he? A qualified chemical engineer with a successful corporate career, and an accomplished motorbike racer and a professional singer. What he was not? A student of life.

Every individual soul is a treasure chest of extraordinary powers. Each human being is bestowed with magnanimous ability in their consciousness, by the nature or creator. Very few people are aware of their inner abilities. This book is written to help the reader to explore his/her infinite potential within. The book handles the elemental knowledge describing the deeper subtler truth of life in a very direct and undiluted form. I would have enjoyed the book more if, it was having an objective/general view other than the religious way/view of practising.

I felt this book is particularly strong in the areas of explaining the extraordinary power of your consciousness, the outer world (people, things, situation) and the inner world (body, breath, mind, intellect, memory, ego, soul).

"When a person repetitively indulges in sensory pleasures, a sense of attachment with the pleasure arises. From attachment, desire is born: and from unfulfilled desires, anger is generated. When this hypnotizing anger engulfs the human mind, even the memory of who you are, who you are getting angry with, who is observing you etc., is completely lost. This results in a dramatic decline in your basic intelligence, your Vivek (wisdom). And as this common sense takes a hit, it eventually leads to a drastic drop in the stature of the soul, the stage of evolution..... It also burns away harmony and beauty from the collective consciousness. At home, in the office or in a group of friends,......"

the book sets the context by reminding us of the damaging effects of six common harmful tendencies (lust/kaam, anger/krodh, greed/lobh, attachment/moh, ego/madh, jealousy/matsar), and suggests that through a simple process of observation and surrender, we can start to identify these tendencies and internal conversations in our own behaviours, and more importantly look for who or what has become a platform that holds these tendencies in our consciousness (thus being a launch pad) even today and consciously work to free ourselves from these negative energies... our effort should be to focus on the present, to live it fully, to stay positive and invoke enthusiasm, love, compassion and celebration in all situations... to take responsibility of our circumstances...

the book reminds us that worldly achievements or sensory pleasures do not result in long lasting happiness and that the only path to true happiness is to enhance the quality of life through sadhna, satsang and service... to exercise our inner potential and learn to maintain unconditional happiness and purity...

the author provides pointers to guided courses from the Art of Living centre... but leaves it to the reader to explore additional material to start the journey... and thus misses out on providing some simple steps that can be taken up immediately by a reader and risks losing out on converting initial attention into action on this journey to grow individual consciousness...

the book is easy to ready and though it covers what we know, what our scriptures have taught us and what we have grown up with, it acts as a reminder and an encouragement that the pursuing this path of inner exploration is possibly achievable - if you have the will, the discipline and patience...

#indicbookclub #IndicAcademy First of all, I would like to convey my gratitude for sending what turned out to be a really interesting, insightful book. Finally got around to reading it after some prior commitments.

The book is simple, succinct and eloquent. Have read many of the concepts discussed here in other sources over the years. The Tao of Physics by Fritjof Capra, Swami Rama, Deepak Chopra, Sadhguru, Om Swami are some of the others that come to mind.

There is a contagious air of positivity in the narrative which I found endearing especially when there is a daily barrage of everything to the contrary.

Profound Vedantic concepts are simplified by Rishi Nityapragya into easily digestible snippets.
The subtle inner flow of consciousness has been extensively analyzed by practically every ancient Indic tradition. From the 'sthitha pragya' of the Bhagavad Gita to the detached observation of Vipassana, anekantavada to Advaita or Bhakti, the real wonders of the world lay inside . His main theme is to put a contemporary spin on the subject.

In many 'spiritual' and 'scientific' texts there is a tendency to get lost in the detail. I liked the fact that he has attempted to keep it free of unnecessary complexity while keeping the profundity in place.
Indic tradition often gets obscured by abstruse philosophical jargon.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are certain writers who are certainly readable but existentialist and self-aggrandizing. Camus, Sartre, Proust make an appearance in a long comparison to Indic tradition in a tome on 'Kama' I once read.

According to him, a thorough understanding of subtle inner strengths and their use for individual and collective benevolence is a part of 'swadhyay' in your life trajectory.

What Shri Nityapragya has covered is not new, but there is certainly a distinctive, fresh approach. This was also a book where brevity was not an issue. It is handy enough to be carried in a backpack whenever the world gravitates to a new normal.

To sum up, the book attempts to give a practical path for the sadhaka on an adhyatmic and material plane. Rishi Nityapragya describes ways for a transformation of consciousness. Invoking them regularly is the gist of his message.
