A World Worth Protecting

Rate this book
By the year 3029 CE, Earth's technology has developed rapidly, borders no longer exist, and Earth has been unified, marking the beginning of the era of the Federation.

At that time, a huge sword flew from the heavens, piercing the sun and causing a huge sensation on Earth.

Perhaps because the scabbard of the sword was already in tatters, countless shards have broken off from it following the collision with the sun and spread across the universe. Many of these shards have landed on various places across Earth.

With the arrival of the bronze sword and its shards, a new unlimited energy source has suddenly appeared on Earth. This energy source has since been named Spirit Qi.

Spirit Qi is like air, thick in some places and thin in others. As the Federation and other factions gather more shards, they discover more information on cultivation, pill refinement, Spirit Stone refinement, and other techniques. The words on the shards have an ancient feel to them, making it a trend for people to use ancient language.

The appearance of Spirit Qi rapidly makes the original energy sources obsolete and has completely changed people's lives. Not only has the Spirit Internet been formed, Spirit Qi has also changed the course of Human Civilization, causing the world to enter a civilization of cultivation. This would later come to be known as the Spirit Inception Era.

One of the worst reads took ages to complete

The review is for all 1455 chapters. This is a Chinese Web novel, fan-translated.

This is the fourth book I have read from the author. Among the other three, A Will Eternal I’m Bai Xiaochun really stands out in the genre with its hilarious comedy and superb action sequences and is among my favourite books, and I Shall Seal the Heavens Patriarch Reliance blends in all the elements from all the other books in this genre I have read, a mediocre takeaway for me, Renegade Immortal The Mediocre Youth started off as a Typical Chinese web novel with Xianxia elements but surprised me with the interesting plotting by the end.

So keeping this in mind knowing this was a combination of Xianxia, Comedy, Sci-Fi and having a unique ending I divided in with expectations.

Well, what could go wrong?

Everything

Although the start was nice, typical world-building, the jokes felt pushed and the Sci-Fi elements laughable. Still, it was a decent read while the plot was based on the Solar System. This arc covered about half the book would rate it as 3/5

Next, we have an OP MC adventure in a typical mediocre Xianxia style, still an okay read at the start but as it progresses it becomes difficult to read. This arc covers about 300-400 chapters, would give it a 2/5

The last 200 chapters were just unreadable, it was torture to complete. Even a kid could write better and think of a better plot, an utter failure. The author tries experimenting with a unique ending and it failed miserably. 0/5

This was a waste of time.

While I'm a fan of Er Gen works and really enjoyed A Will Eternal and I Shall Seal the Heaven, this one was a bit of a suffering. The story is as usual quite long (but that is common for these genres) in rough estimations and depending on how you calculate it, 1457 chapters should be equal to around 11k to 30k pages.
My problem was that it had two parts towards the end which felt (in case 1) really too long and meaningless filler lacking anything interesting for about 120-150 chapters. While the second one was as about 80 to 120 chapters long and felt like just a repetition of previous arc with many things renamed and such. At those two points I was honestly considering just dropping this, well ending was good but that's like the last 10 or so chapters so be warned.

Overall don't bother reading this if you want to try Er Gen and just go for some other of his works.

Started off as an amazing and refreshing novel from Er Gen. Learning from A Will Eternal, the MC is dripping with personality and is one of my favorite characters from any of Er Gen's novels. Sadly my beloved fatty devolved into a standard xianxia protag. In an attempt to showcase his growth as a character he lost a lot of what made him so lovable. It also sucks that the official translation was dropped around chapter 900 out of 1400 and what's left is computer translated garbage. The story could've been my favorite novel from him but the translation issues make it impossible to experience his writing.

not his best work. started off with an interesting concept and the first few arcs were genuinely peak. went downhill somewhere around chapter 600 and it just lost any unique charm it used to have. also at like chapter 900 the translation was dropped by the official translators and it becomes mtl garbage that feels awful to read after the actual translations. would not recommend unless you want to get mad about what could have been

Read to chapter 820. In this novel, Er Gen shows his prowess in the art of politik, but compared to other cultivation novels, the depth of the world, the characters and plot didnt turn out to be very interesting.
