“Little runt, won’t you think it over?” “Do I have a choice?” “You can choose from giving birth once or giving birth twice.” “Why must I?!” “Because you stole my heart.”
This webnovel was.... Long. 2761 chapters long. It took me about 6 months to finish reading it but I'm so glad I persevered and did not drop it in between. Something was always happening. It was like a game where you start at the lowest level of power and gradually pave your way to higher levels. This journey was extremely pleasing to read. Moreover, concepts like cultivation of power in ancient China was new to me. I had never read anything like this before. Ye Qingtang is a formidable figure. She is reborn 300 years into the past after she died. She gets a chance to make different choices and get revenge. The way her powers elevated, her former foes were no longer even worthy of being called a foe. She surpassed everybody. This could not have been possible without Ling Yan. He was the rock she never knew she needed. This novel had like 0.00001% romance. Their love was innocent and full of respect for the each other. The level of trust they had made up for the lack of romance. Their relationship was based on understanding and mutual respect. I don't know if I'll ever reread this book (Once was enough!), but I'll forever hold this story close to my heart. I was part of this book for the long journey. A friend told me that Chinese webnovels were about the journey, not the destination. I'd say she was spot on. Embarking on this journey with Ye Qingtang was a fun experience that I'll never forget.
The review is for the full story. It’s one of many rebirth at the lowest cultivation level and work hard to reach the top, immortal god level. There are 2700+ chapters of obstacles blocking the heroine. It has the standard evil clan members repeatedly making her life miserable. It has the multiple cultivation sects she joins on her journey to get more powerful than her ever increasing list of enemies. Again, it has the standard sect villains making her daily life a challenge and multiple assailants as a bonus.
The features that make this cultivation novel unique is the feel of the movie “Inception” storyline and space/time manipulation with body swapping. It’s confusing closer to the end when secrets are revealed. Most subplots have quick closures near the end in several face palming moments. Worth reading once if you can get through the length. 4/5
