Gabby has endured a childhood that no one should have to and she has learnt the hard way that the only one she can count on is herself. When Mason agrees to help her transition into her new life, she wasn’t prepared for the feelings she would develop for him.

Mason has always strived to keep those around him safe, but he has suffered a tragic loss that still weighs heavily on his heart. He is determined to keep himself closed off so that he doesn’t have to endure that kind of pain again but there is something about Gabby that he is powerless to resist.

This is a heartwarming story about two people whose journey isn’t without its challenges as help each other heal from their pasts.

I was gifted an ARC of 'From Ashes by Elise Faber' for an honest review.. Superb and Exciting!!

Two magical people, a man and a woman.
One has lost his wife and son.
One has killed her mother.
Can past memories be healed?
Can two become one?

Meet Mason,an elite LexTal warrior that strives to protect his fellow Rengallas within the colony. Where magic and strength are combined to fight the Dalshie-the enemy who practices dark magic. His wife and son were killed by the Dalshie. the pain of that night still remains.

Meet Gabby, she is running from her past, she is one of the ones that slipped thru the cracks until she called that number, which just may of saved her sanity. She has been at the colony for 6 months, she works at the infirmary and keeps to herself. Only her doctor friend knows the truth, that she killed her mother, just not all of it, of what she is hiding from everyone else, what evil dark memories that threaten to destroy her. Just one touch from someone can cause her to remember the evil things that happened.

When Gabby causes a incident in the classroom for children coming into their magic, the teacher suggests she seek out a private tutor, she needs to control her magic before she hurts someone. Along comes Mason who offers to tutor her, he doesn't know why he has but for some reason Gabby intrigues him.

Both are hiding from their painful pasts but Mason can tell after just touching Gabby that her fear of something is soul shattering. Gabby knows about Mason's past and for some reason she feels she can trust him but...

This book is a story of a magical world where there is good and evil sides, where Love can come true. Past memories will be confronted and tested. But even in those darkest hours there is alway a ray of Hope and if your one of the lucky ones, you can find Love, someone to bond with on a much deeper level and when combining their magic..Wow..

I found myself laughing along with the characters in the book, you can feel and imagine all the scenes in it. The writing is smooth and draws you into the story with so much emotions it's like being a part of it.

I would recommend this book to all PNR fans who are looking for a softer side of paranormal, where love is the real heart of this story.

**********received an ARC for my honest review****************

Again, I will say that this book surprised me. I don't tend to read paranormal romance books, but this one sucked me in like the other two in the series.

This one is about Mason and Gabby. Both you have meet in Dark Phoenix. You don't have to read the other two to understand this book, but I would recommend it.

Mason is a loner and just wants to be by himself. He doesn't want a mate. He has some issues from his past that he hasn't worked out for decades. When you get to hear his past, your heart breaks a little for him.

Gabby is new to the Colony and doesn't want to mate with anyone. She is a fiery girl. She has her own demons that she needs to slay. She has had her powers since she was a young girl but was never allowed to use them. She is just learning to use them.

Mason volunteers to help Gabby with these powers. He is drawn to her and it scares him. Gabby has the same feelings going on and she is scared also.

You have some of the characters from the previous books show up. Suz, Tyler, Dante, and Daughtry. Gabby and Daughtry's friendship is great. The way that they go back and forth is hilarious.

Without giving too much away, Mason and Gabby finally after some crazy ups and downs, get their stuff together. Can't wait to see what happens next for the pair.

My Review
Ohhhh Elise! seriously sometimes i wonder if my poor little heart can keep up...if it is strong enough to last another of your books!
Ms Faber takes command of your heart and forces you to emotionally invest a little more with each edition! Gabby and Mason haven't had the easiest of starts but i believe that with each knock that they face they become stronger as a couple...but this time...i can't deny that i was worried! The suspense was so built up that you could cut it with a knife edge (Yes i'm being a little elusive here but i really really don't want to give anything away)
The fight between the Lextal and the Dalshie's continues to battle on but will the connection between Gabby and Mason be strong enough to survive the latest drama? or will it wilt and die? Read the book and find out!
Exceptionally written as always! i couldn't recommend Ms Faber any more Highly.

This book is so unlike any Elise Faber book that I have read. It took me into a word of magic and love; a world with soul deep bonding. It started me on a roller coaster of pain and unrequited wishes. One that I gladly took.

Gabby lived a harsh childhood and was trying to overcome the pain, never thinking she would find happiness. Mason had suffered his own pain and loss and refused to let anyone in. These two had a bond, a connection that refused to be ignored. A love that I enjoyed watching develop, even if there were big hurdles to cross. My only disappointment was that it was to short for me to feel completely fulfilled with their story.

*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*

I had not yet read a book by Elise Faber, and I am not sure why I waited. This is a paranormal slow burn romance and it did not disappoint. The LexTal are tasked with protecting the Rengalla from the corrupt Dalshie. Mason is a widower and struggles to fight his interest in Gabby. Gabby is a survivor with secrets. Both of these characters were well written. I felt badly for both as they both experienced significant pain and loss. Watching them interact was intriguing. The overarching story line implies there was another series that I probably should have read first; however the story stands alone and is satisfying. I will definitely read more from this author.

This book was very intriguing and I really liked it. Offering an enticing blend of emotion, suspense, drama, tension, humor, intensity and desire that is all served up with a PNR flair, this book had me pretty much hooked from the start. Gabby and Mason were complex and compelling characters. Their painful pasts and emotional baggage weigh heavily on these two and their growing relationship. My heart hurt for them. I thought there was a certain sweetness to the unwanted and fiercely resisted feelings that blossom between this pair, so you can fully expect your heart strings to be tugged on. I'm posting unbiased review of my own accord.

From Ashes is a fantastic paranormal read. If you love the world of magical powers then you will love this one. Before I get started I just want to say if you want to know a little more background about who the LexTal are then pick up the Phoenix series (this is a spinoff of that but can be read without it). I love watching Mason and Gabby dance around each other. Your heart will ache for Mason and what he goes through. Gabby you get why she keeps things to herself. I love watching Gabby slowly trust Mason more and more as their bond grows. This one will pull at your heart and is so worth it. I really loved this one and I can't wait for more of this series to come.

A very interesting and intriguing story. A slow burn love story with a lot of secrets, hurt, loss and love. Mason is a widower who can't seem to get Gabby off of his mind. Gabby has a secret that could tear everything away from her. She has been attracted to mason from the beginning, but had tried to keep her distance. She is struggling with her powers and can't seem to be able to control her emotions/powers. The side characters wetter great and helped moved the story along. A good book.

From Ashes by Elise Faber is a PNR slowburn romance that is not unlike the other contemporary romance stories that the author has written. This book has paranormal romance, heat, feels, drama, secrets, angst suspense and intrigue. This is Mason and Gabby's story. I enjoyed the slowburn romance, getting to learn the paranormal aspects of the read along with the pain that both main characters suffer from. This story will take you on quite the emotional rollercoaster ride and have you on the edge of your seat. The ending was great.

Mason and Gabby both have very strong magic. They both have soul deep secrets and regrets. Both have vowed their secrets will keep them from ever growing close to another. When a situation warrants some time together things change. They both come to many realizations in their quest to help one another and in the process bare their secrets. Was an interesting story and the characters drew me in.

OH WOW! Not what I had expected, but totally loved. I have to say upfront that I am not really a fan of paranormal books, but I love Elise Faber so I took a chance.

Alright y'all this one is definitely slow burn. There is a ton of pain and loss felt by both Mason and Gabby as you get into you see Mason is struggling with his feelings for Gabby because he's a widower. Gabby is the holder of secrets and her on pains she has survived. I felt so bad for Gabby with hiding her secrets she's truly hurting herself but also scared of hurting it them. Mason brings out a whole nother side of her and throws her for a loop. I will definitely check out the next book.

This is a magical, paranormal, romance. For adults only, due to the sexual content. This could be read as a stand alone but being it is a spin off from the Phoenix Series, I advise reading that series first to understand the story better. I have loved all the books by Elise Faber but Gabby is by far my favorite character. Gabby is a sweet girl who loves deeply and her love knows no boundaries. Mason is broken hearted and he has to learn to trust in himself again. They are a hot mess but somehow they make it work.

Gabby has not lived in the compound for long, but it is the only place that truly feels like home. Her past is filled with sorrow, pain and she is determined to keep it locked away in the past. Her powers are still undeveloped and she feels inadequate. Struggling to fit in she allows herself to befriend a couple people but no matter how much she confines herself, she is constantly being challenged by Mason. Even though he gets under her skin, she feels a maddening attraction to him.

Mason has dwelt with tragedy, loss has changed his whole world. He has one goal, protect the colony. His whole world is thrown off balance when he meets Gabby, now he is given the job of mentoring her. He feels something that he has not felt for years. He does not deserve this gift. He fights with himself, he strives to ignore his feelings. But in the end there is no denying the magnetic pull between Gabby and him.

favorite passages:
"He swore he could practically taste the lavender and lemon smell on his tongue, floral with a hint of sharpness."
"He looked both absolutely comfortable and completely dangerous."
"The words slipped from her unbidden."
"But Mason already knew all about guilt-understood that it never truly faded, that once its iron-like talons had grasped your soul, it never let you go."<3
"His heart beat a little faster in her presence and blood pooled in places he'd thought long desensitized."
"Awareness, a soul-deep awakening."
"He was the rope attached to a ship's anchor. His emotions, their mutual desire, threatened to pull her to the bottom of the ocean."
"And even the most experienced FBI investigator had nothing on their mother."
"Dark, dangerous but with moments of such piercing beauty that the hazards could almost be forgotten."<3
"She was his heartbeat, woven so deeply that she was in the very marrow of his bones."

From Ashes, Elise Faber

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, Fantasy and paranormal

I really enjoyed the first two novels in this series and though you could read this without having read those you’ll understand the world setting and characters so much better if you start with them.

This is a shorter novel, though still a decent length and doesn’t have the adventure and suspense that backed up the romance in the first two, just a fairly straightforward romance between two troubled characters.

Gabby has a secret, something that she keeps hidden about her past, but its affecting her magic and her new life. She’s afraid that if she reveals it though everyone will hate her and she may have to leave. Its reaching the point though that her magic, which she is only now learning about, is getting beyond her control and potentially dangerous. Poor Gabby, she’s terrified of hurting someone, and yet can’t open herself up to anyone without revealing her secret. Awful situation. Throw in that every time Mason is around she turns into a blushing, tongue tied idiot – well, that’s how she feels anyway, and she’s in turmoil. She’s really attracted to Mason, and when he decides to help her its hard for her to hide it. What she doesn't know though is that he also feels the pull between them...

Its a sweet story, with some strong sensuality. I so wanted things to work out for them but could see both sides, things they struggled with, and then there’s a pull that’s more than just simply attraction between them. If they give in to it there’s no going back. Time for some hard decisions.

I was quickly pulled back into the world Elise has created and really enjoyed this, not quite as much as the first two, but if you're looking for an easy to read paranormal this book is perfect.

Stars: Four, excellent addition to the series

***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***

We’re back in the world of the Rengalla and the Delshie. This time we’re now focusing on Cody and Daughtry. This time it’s one of the twins. Mason, the one who lost his wife and son to the Delshie and the one who would see them all dead. He’s finding himself intrigued by the new receptionist for the healer. Her name is Gabby and she’s the worst at harnessing her magic. Even the ones who’ve recently gotten theirs is better than she is.

What he and everyone doesn’t realize is that she’s hiding a terrible secret. One she’s certain will cause her to be ousted from the group, and she was just starting to feel at home, to make friends. So when Francis the teacher requests her to take private tutoring lessons from Mason, the one who makes a forest of butterflies take flight in her belly, she couldn’t be more freaked out.

This story is pretty short. Especially compared to Cody and Daughtry’s story. But man, do they have chemistry! Mason is intense. Just really intense and Gabby is just so strong. We get to see Daughtry in this story, not so much Cody. We also get to see more Suz….there’s something going on with her, so maybe we’ll get to hear about it soon. We also get to see more Tyler. I really like Tyler. He’s awesome. Just simply awesome. I really can’t say more. I want you to delve into this world for yourself.

Ms. Faber is still weaving this world and making you fall in love with the Rengallan culture. I know this is going somewhere wonderful and I can’t wait to read more books in this series. I’m glad I’ve finally caught up in the series, but I’m sad because I’m finally caught up in the series. So the question is, would I recommend this book? Yes, I would. Again the heat level is more than for kids, but it’s not erotic.

From Ashes, LexTal Chronicles #1 by Elise Faber

I was gifted a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

CONTAINS SPOILERS
CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT

From Ashes is a spin-off of The Phoenix Series by Elise Faber. If you have not read that series it is ok to read this as a stand alone, however characters are integrated throughout the story so you might want to read Phoenix Rising and Dark Phoenix first. Some of the terms I use will be from the book because I have read the other series and now this book.

When I started reading From Ashes I thought I was diving back into the world of the Regnalla (Magical Folk) and Forgotten (Normal Folk who have been experimented on) and all the LexTals (Magical Soldiers). I was DEAD WRONG.

I expected a more serious, fast paced novel like I have read with Elise Faber’s Phoenix Series that she is known for, however there was a humorous tone in which I found myself amused even with the heated and steamy scenes that this book had to offer.

Elise Faber's writing is one in a million and I have said from the beginning that she is the one to be on the lookout for because I believe she will be one of the Indie Authors who shoots for the stars and does not miss. From Ashes has shown the world that her writing has gotten better and better with each book. I cannot wait to see what she has in store for each Regnalla and LexTal character.

I personally hope to see more of the LexTal Chronicles and the Phoenix Series soon!

Please note this review may contain spoilers.

FROM ASHES is book 1 in the Phoenix: A LexTal Chronicle series, which is a spin-off of Elise Faber’s Phoenix series. While I’ve been told this is technically a stand-alone, I did have trouble understanding the characters involved. I think I could have benefited from reading the Phoenix series first, assuming those books provide more information about what the characters are, their powers, their history, etc.

Gabby and Mason are both trying to deal with their tragic pasts. Gabby escaped very recently from a terrible existence that spanned several years, but Mason has been dealing with his past for over a century. While Gabby learns about Mason’s tragedy through her friends, she’s afraid to share her past with anyone, fearing they will turn their backs on her and she will be forced to leave the safest place she’s ever known. And given that she’s half in love with Mason, keeping her secret from him is more important than anything else, because having him turn away would break her.

And that’s pretty much the gist of the entire book; Gabby has a secret that she doesn’t want to share with anyone, and both Gabby and Mason try to accept and move on from their pasts. I found there was quite a bit of repetition when talking about their bond and especially about Gabby’s secret. I thought Gabby and Mason were a good couple and really liked when they finally let everything go and got together.

From Ashes is the start of a spinoff series, from Phoenix Rising and Dark Phoenix, called the Lextal Chronicles and it involves Mason and Gabby. We also see appearances from some our favorite characters from the Phoenix series such as Daughtry, Cody, Tyler, Suz, and Francis…just to name a few because they’re all pretty great. From Ashes is another awesomely well-written book that just sweeps you up and takes you on the journey that Mason and Gabby must go through. Both Mason and Gabby have things in their pasts that make them apprehensive of their possible futures and places in the world. They both have their own story, something that they must struggle with and come to terms with, and as a reader you hope they can figure out a way to overcome what haunts them together. Their journey is not without its bumps in the road but those bumps are what make the struggle…the journey real. Well that the way it was written with all the awesome banter between the characters. It’s not just banter between Gabby and Mason, which is witty with a few extra sides of steamy, but also the interactions between all the characters. The conversations between Daughtry, Suz, and Gabby are exactly the sort of banter you want to have with your friends. And this is the beauty of how Elise writes. She just makes things real…the friendships, the relationships, the struggles…and that’s why you get swept away and really feel for the characters in her stories.

Mason has lost his wife and child to the Dalshie and ever since that day he has distanced himself from everyone apart from other LexTal. The only one he has allowed close is Daughtry, simply because he admires her strength and courage. Of course, I think the fact that she is a bondmate to a LexTal also puts her in the "safe" zone.

Gabby has been living at the Colony for just over six months and hates to be touched. She is attracted and fascinated by Mason, but pushes him away with every opportunity. The reasons for this become clear, but it is heartbreaking when she does it.

Mason is not one to give up, and with a bit on conniving on the part of someone (I won't name them!), is convinced that he needs to help Gabby with her magic. It doesn't take long before they both realise that they could be the second set of bondmates. They have some serious issues to work through first though, on both sides.

This is a funny and sad story that had me wanting Mason and Gabby to be happy together from the very start. The overall story with the war between the Rengallas and the Dalshie continues but the focus is very much on Mason and Gabby.

Exceedingly well-written with no editing or grammatical errors that I found, this is a superb addition to the Phoenix series. I cannot wait to read more! Highly recommended.

This book was AMAZING!!! I have never been disappointed by any of Elise's books! I am a huge fan! I would give it more than 5 stars if I was able! I can't wait for the next book. If you haven't read any of Elise's books, then I highly recommend you start with book one, Phoenix Rising. I read this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. Thank you Elise for another fantastic read!

I will not give anything away with this story. This book is about Gabby and Mason and their attraction within the Rengalla colony. Gabby is a klutz who works in the infirmary and does not think she is worthy of anyone because of her secrets, esp a LexTal. The LexTal's are the military of the Rengalla. Mason is a LexTal, however he does not think he is really above anyone else because he does have secrets as well. If I do tell more about this story I will be giving the whole plot away. Therefore I feel I really cant tell you much more than that without giving away too much of the story and ruining it for you! This is most definitely a must read!

What an excellent book this is. Besides being very well written, it is funny, magical, and full of adventure and attraction. Gabby is a sweet, funny, clumsy to the max girl who finds herself deeply attracted to Mason the widowed Rengalla Warrior .When Gabby's powers go wild and crazy it brings Mason right to her. Mason is also extremely attracted to Gabby. Though due to his past he tries staying distant from her; a hard thing for him to do as he cannot get her out of his mind. Between Mason's funny buddies Morgan, Tyler, and John he and us readers are kept entertained by their hilarious banter and adventures. Then there is the Dalshie, enemy of Rengalla, who practiced dark magic experimenting on and torturing humans which resulted in a group called The Forgotten. They had very limited magical abilities and much longer lifespans.

I'm new to this author and paranormal books and I can honestly now say that I am definitely a fan of both. Elise Faber has such an amazing way with her words as they flow smoothly throughout this book. And the humor is great especially the clumsiness of Gaby and her post it messes. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to many more books by Elise.

This was the first book of Elise Faber’s that I’ve read in this genre, I’ve read books in her Gold Hockey series. The premise in the book’s blurb intrigued me enough to request an ARC from the author through an ARC program I participate in.

Both main characters have suffered in their pasts, his is openly known - his wife and young son were killed by Dalshie (dark magic users) over 100+ years ago. Gabby’s past is a huge secret, even from the reader for several chapters. This secret controls how she lives life.

Once everything is out in the open and Gabby and Mason have a serious connection that they slowly build upon. Their emotional and physical connection is developed, growing quickly but deeply. Their journey includes some obstacles, mostly internal and emotional ones that take time to overcome.

I found the author’s world building to be enough to give you an understanding, yet not drown the reader in descriptive details! The secondary characters are interesting and help the two main characters develop and become their true selves.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. This was a very enjoyable read.

I was given this ARC book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.

From Ashes takes us into the intricate yet intriguing minds of Gabby and Mason. Gabby is self-sufficient in her own way with a secret that she fears will mark her with hate and Mason is bold and broken with a craving for a Gabby pie. Both have to find the peace at the end of internal war within their individual struggles. In the end, they both received more than what they bargained for.

Elise Faber again knows how to reach deep inside our feelings and become the juggler of emotions.

Elise always has a way of connecting with her readers through the personalities of the characters she creates. Although From Ashes is on the less action side, there is still a big wow factor and still the humorous feistiness that Elise instills in her character dialogue.

Another fantastic story that will warm your heart, jump start your imagination, and will leave you wanting more!!!!

From Ashes by Elise Faber is a slow burn romance and is the first paranormal book I've read by this author. This story introduces us to Gabby and Mason. Gabby has lived a hard childhood. Being one to never know or feel happiness, she has always been a strong fighter and survivor. Mason is a widower who has walls built so high that no one is able to get past or penetrate those walls. But when these two get together, their connection is so intense that no matter how hard Mason tries to fight and resist, he's always drawn back to her. Both of these characters know what it's like to feel loss and pain. I think that's why their connection is so strong as they can relate to one another, and while they both have their own secrets and baggage, I think being together eases some of their emotions and makes them better and happier. Elise Faber was able to evoke so many feelings and emotions throughout this story. From drama, suspense, humor and desires, she was able to take us on a journey that gave us all the feels while telling us a story and I applaud her writing talents

Another great Rengalla story, Elise Faber has such a way with words. I wish I could disappear into their world. Even with all the problems with the Forgotten, the Dalshie, and normal problems couples face it still draws me in. In this story we meet Gabby as she deals with her past and who she is and what she can d because of it. We also see Mason (Mr. Hottie Lex-Tal) which we met in Phoenix Rising. These two were made for each other, but as most couples they bungled through their relationship. Her fighting her past, just as much as he was fighting his. If they can get past their own hang ups, they will have a bond and connection that will surpass their wildest dreams. This is a wild ride, as we see Gabby and Mason, fight themselves, each other, their feelings and the Dalshie. Will it work out or will they be to stubborn to lean on each other. My heart broke for both their pasts as they struggle to heal and deal with what was.
