“Pain is common, but pain is not normal” - Heather Marta.

This book is invaluable for not only understanding your body before, during and after pregnancy, but also to know that YOU DON’T JUST HAVE TO LEARN TO LIVE WITH PAIN. As women, we’re continually told that childbirth alters our bodies and even “breaks them,” but this book offers an alternative of hope and healing. Please hear me, this book isn’t just another “helpful” tool, this book will change the way you view your body and what it is capable of! From understanding what in the heck a “pelvic floor” is to dealing with leakage (real pregnancy probs here) to learning how to maintain good posture (we don’t have to end up with haunch backs, ladies) and SO much more! Heather (the author) is a mom of three and she’s written it for moms who don’t have time (or energy) to add another thing to their to-do list as she provides quick video clips of her explaining/demonstrating what she’s written about. It’s an easy, specific and enlightening read! This is the only book you will need in understanding your body and every woman needs to read it.

As a first time mother, this book helped me prepare for pregnancy and delivery. Understanding my pelvic floor and diaphragmatic breathing was a game changer when I needed to push during delivery because I knew how my pelvic floor worked and was prepared for that moment. Knowing my body allowed me to truly love my delivery!

The videos that accompany the book added a visual learning element that helped me understand the principles in the book in a deeper way. I was able to advocate for my needs and felt empowered in pregnancy and delivery due to the insights gained in this book. A must read for pregnancy or for any woman seeking to understand her body!

Understanding our bodies throughout the pregnancy process is a MUST; but understanding our bodies through life as a female is just as important. Whether you are going through the pregnancy process now, raising daughters or beginning to notice changes in your own body as you get older, it's critical to read this book and know what kind of questions to ask. The more you know about your body, the better able you are to read the signs and understand how to fix things before there is a problem. Heather breaks down the terms and issues while offering real world solutions and ways to strengthen and improve our life through all the stages of life.

Connecting with Your Body Throughout Pregnancy has been such a helpful tool to me during my pregnancy. I wish I would have had this book for my other pregnancies. The information I have gleaned and been able to put to practice has not only helped me physically through my pregnancy but it has set me up for a great postpartum recovery as well. If you are an expecting Mama this book is a must read!

This review is coming from a labor & delivery nurse! Great book to get "behind the scenes" before your delivery to help you understand why and how to connect with your body so that your mind and body are both prepared for your delivery experience. I love that Journaling is part of this book so that you can write your plan and ideas to prepare for your personal birth journey!
