About the author

Despite his Welsh name, Gwilym Davies hails from Hampshire. His early interest in music making came in the skiffle craze of the sixties, strumming out chords on an old banjo. The folk music boom of the sixties awakened his curiosity to explore the roots of his folk culture which he then set out to research. As well as being a song collector, Gwilym is known as a singer and multi-instrumentalist musician and is an active performer in his locality. He has written many short publications on folk song, but this is his first venture into a longer work.
