I read this in a NetGalley ARC edition.

The examples of what not to do are interesting if not particularly well-organized. There were enough typos and grammar issues that I am hopeful it underwent some revision before being officially published.

I appreciated the concept of this leadership guide, but found it not well executed. The entire premise is sharing awful leadership tactics in Hope's to inspire leaders to make different choices. The author makes a point in his introduction to state there will be redundancies, but I felt like I was reading the same few points ad nauseam. There were numerous grammar errors throughout the book as well. There are great ideas within this work, but overall it missed the mark for me.

I received a free PDF of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was fun and depressing at the same time. Some of the examples described the behaviour of some of my superiors too perfectly. Making the book half of the size would have sufficed as it contains a lot of repetition (of which the author warns beforehand)

If you want some bad examples of leadership then you should read this book

This book has reminded me of kids stories with bad advice I used to read when a child. The main concept was to tell kids bad advice counting they will do the opposite. Interesting idea applied for leaders. Sometimes we do not notice what and how we do things and once we read about those behaviors we can recognized ourselves in certain situations. Fun reading!

Great Book!
Don’t let the title scare you! The bad leaders will. Dr. Tom DePaoli in Boogeyman Leadership: How to Turn Your Employees into Listless Zombies, showcases poor leaders and their tactics that inevitably fail. He believes you should know what does not work first, so that an aspiring good leader does not waste time on such failed approaches. He does not pretend to offer any silver bullet solutions to correct these poor leadership policies. He defines boogeyman leadership as the use of miserable and intimidating leadership tactics whose purpose is to terrify employees and instill distrust, apathy and fear. The result is a zombie-like listless state. Boogeyman Leadership recounts many bad leadership ideas and real-life stories to make sure the reader crosses these schemes off their leadership list. The reader should be forewarned that many of the bad leadership ideas are repetitive. Bad leaders are not very creative! The book is not a solemn academic book or a guide to great leadership successes. Its purpose is to give examples of terrible leadership and worse management tactics that Dr. Tom and others have experienced in their careers. Dr. Tom sadly notes that these failed leadership ploys are becoming even more common, destructive and hurtful. He urges the reader to avoid these methods at all costs. Followers never forget bullying leaders.
