Sera Miller has woken up straddling a corpse more times than she can count. During her blackouts she leaves a mounting trail of mutilated, dismembered bodies in her wake. Inventing an alter ego to cope with the destruction she causes, Sera struggles with the knowledge that any tryst she engages in will ultimately end in her date’s gruesome death. It doesn't help that men constantly seek her out; her inhuman charm and beauty draw them to her no matter how hard she tries to avoid it. Sera is perplexed to learn that the FBI is seeking two individuals in the serial murders. Does she have a stalker, or is her alter ego working with someone? It's as much a mystery to her as it is to the authorities. Complicating matters further, Sera's best friend and roommate begins dating FBI agent Jeff Robertson, who suspects something supernatural at work in the killings. Can Sera stop her inner killer before the FBI closes in, or will her demons take over?
AJ Mullican is a queer, neurospicy, multi-genre romance author who writes across a wide spectrum of tropes and romantic pairings. AJ loves love in all its varied forms, which is reflected in her writing. AJ firmly believes that “Variety in spice is life.” From “traditional” MF romance to queer and poly romantic pairings, throuples, quads (you get the idea!) there’s something for everyone in her work.
When she isn’t writing, AJ enjoys playing Final Fantasy XIV online and dabbling in sewing and resin crafting. She lives in southern Arizona with her husband and three cats, Rory, River, and Missy.
I can't find the words to describe this book. I thought it would be in the horror genre, and, I guess, parts of it could be considered that. But it's so much more. The complex plot twists, the seamless switching of the POV, the final, unexpected climax.... Wow... Just.... Wow!!!!
A woman finds out that there is a battle between good and evil within herself, literally.
On occasion I read erotica. When I do, it's usually paranormal erotica. Recently a friend challenged me to read this book, but the joke was on her, I had already purchased it!
The books starts off with a mentally ill woman who had escaped from a mental institution. In her throes of madness she fell victim to a horrendous rape. The story forwards 28 years when the product of that rape, Sera, awakes from a black-out to find herself straddling the mutilated corpse of a one-night stand. And this wasn't the first time this had happened to her.
Paranormal erotica? WTF is this?
Hang in there. This is NOT the story I was expecting it to be. It's a profound story of friendship, family, love, faith, and redemption. I really don't want to say much more as it would give away the story. What I DO want to say is that this book is well-written, with perfectly developed characters and built on a world that I would love to see more books written about. While the plot-lines all get tied up by the end, there IS a lot of potential for a series of books in this world that AJ Mullican created. It's probably less of paranormal-erotica and more of a horror novel, let's say, and well-worth your time to read.
A woman is savagely attacked one night by a predator that will make himself known to all…even over two decades later he hunts for what is his…his daughter~ Sera works in a bar and has many, many blackouts. When she awakens, it is to discover something inhumane has occurred. No one has ever caught her…how long has this been going on? She settled for a home in Chicago. Now, there are many after her and her other half…Harrow. Will they be able to discern it is her after all this time? Why are things coming back corrupted? Why is no one able to really identify her in cameras, her prints, her DNA? Her roommate works for the FBI…will she help crack the cases? Who is the other one they search for? So many weird things to explain and only a truly Holy influence can help…but will it come?
This book has made it to my top 3 list. It'd be my #1 book if it was part of a series that continues with the world it happens in. I loved how mature it was and didn't pull any punches. Everything about this book is what I wish all books were like. The authour had no issues describing scenes that some may consider offensive, not holding back anything. I don't want to say too much, as it would spoil the story. It's just one of the most amazing books I've read. Everything was so believable, I was entirely immersed, and I will be reading this one again and again, over the years. If there's any other books in this world, or even very similar, please feel free to respond to my review and let me know!
I made it 50% and had not nope out. It got to a scene where it seemed way over the top for the lead up and I couldn’t read any further. It quicker me out. Up until that I was rolling along.
If you are into demonic serial killers than this is for you. If not I would not start it.
Always great reading work by this author. She has well-crafted characters and builds great worlds revolving around them. Always look forward to new work by her.
