Found this one at the one and only John K. King books in Detroit, Michigan. (If you are ever anywhere near there during business hours you owe it to yourself to go!)
This was a breezy, fun read about those loveable losers, the Chicago Cubs.
I grew up as a Cub fan in the late 90's / 2000's, so many of these players I only know about from books, Ken Burns' Baseball, and stats.
Lots of cool snippets here, and I appreciated the accompanying photographs on virtually every page. Lots of focus on the '69 and '84 teams, which is understandable as the author was covering the team as a Tribune sportwriter during those seasons. No complaints here on that, as there were many nuggets about the Hall of Famers (or Cubs Hall of Famers) who played in those years.
A lot of things have happened since this book was written in 1985. New records have been set, hundreds of new players have worn the uniform. Some of the content is no longer relevant. But for a die-hard Cub fan, it's still a nice read.
