The ghosts do not lie.

For Eleanor, the future is written in stone, or is it? As a bloody war spreads across Europe, the mob seizes control of New York City. Unable to stand by as crime lord corrupts her home, Eleanor stalks the streets in a mask, weaponizing her ability to see the future. But when the Society strikes first, she must face a foe with gifts of her own.

There must always be four.

Eleanor finds the Society has its hooks in more than just mobsters. She discovers those around her are keeping secrets and not who they say. When the Society offers Eleanor a partnership, she must decide if she is strong enough to change the future of a centuries old cabal.

Fans of alternative history, urban fantasy, and women who defy expectations will cheer for Eleanor as she becomes the vigilante New York City needs.

It started with single comic book. Jeremy’s mother was determined to make a reader out of him. Shunning traditional literature at a young age, his mother placed X-Men Classic #69 in his lap and for the first time he was exposed to the phrases, “Mutants,” “BAMF,” and “SNIKT.” He is still waiting for his acceptance letter to the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters at 1407 Graymalkin Lane.

Despite voraciously consuming anything by R.A. Salvatore, Mercedes Lackey, and Laurel K. Hamilton, his first love remains the superheroes in comic books. Because of this he has written multiple series in the dystopian superhero universe, the Children of Nostradamus. He is a fan of fast-paced action, the darker side of humanity and incredibly snarky dialogue.

Jeremy became known as a geek before it was a trend. During college Jeremy would be shortened to Remy as friends discovered his goal of reading every X-Men comic. Being able to explain the many incarnations of Jean Grey and her alternate-dimensional children remains a badge of honor.

When not pounding away at the keyboard he is… nevermind, he’s always at his keyboard working on the next novel.

Excellent continuation of Eleanor's story. She is really coming into her own in this book, but that also means facing more demons from her past and questioning who she really wants to be - what she is willing to do and sacrifice to accomplish her ends. In her quest to eliminate one evil, is she merely creating a vacuum for another to fill? She is the type of character who wants a black a white world, a simple path to follow. Fight the bad guys, protect the weak. But the world doesn't always work that way. Her powers are expanding in interesting ways amplifying this. Relationships continuing to develop - also reflecting the prism of choices open to her and their varied results. She continues to be a modern feeling character in a heavily comic book inspired, diesel-punk feel WWII setting. This book hints at reasons for that too though.

This is book 2 in The Dawning of Superheroes series, which is in the shared universe of The Children of Nostradamus. This takes place prior to the The Night Series and can be read independently of that series. This book builds quite a bit on the groundwork laid in book 1 and although there is a self-contained plot it is a much richer and more enjoyable experience to read the series in order. The major plot point in this book was resolved, but there is much more story yet to come.

Not bad, AT ALL!

Apart from an odd moment to sneak into a style that doesn't suit the period that the author is writing about, this is a very good story from the point of view of the Superhero beginnings. Yes, it's supposed to be on an alternate Earth where there are more psi enabled people, but still! I am eager to find out how this continues.
