La storia ha molto potenziale, in un mondo in cui non sono gli esseri umani a dominare ma gli elfi. È un bel viaggio nella storia di Elfreda, amichevolmente chiamata Frey, alla scoperta del suo passato e poi la sua evoluzione nel ruolo che le spetta nella società degli elfi scuri.
La scrittura è abbastanza semplice e per essere un fantasy è un po' carente di descrizioni e ambientazione, e questo secondo me è un gran peccato. I libri sono brevi, molto, e anche qui uno scrittore con maggiori capacità di coinvolgere il lettore avrebbe potuto rendere la saga epica.
I personaggi sono molto intriganti, per quanto non eccessivamente caratterizzati, e molti dettagli sono lasciati all'intuito del lettore; ma devo dire che nel complesso questa saga mi è piaciuta e mi sono affezionata al personaggio di Frey.
Non è una lettura troppo impegnativa, anche in lingua originale come l'ho letta io.
Consigliata a chi si avvicina al mondo del fantasy per entrarci in punta di piedi, senza rischiare di essere sopraffatti come potrebbe accadere con altri libri più corposi e conosciuti.
Poco romance (per fortuna), molta magia e sul finale anche draghi (per la mia gioia) :)
