Rebooting the Bible, Part 1, SECOND EDITION, reveals the hidden history of a Second Century A.D. rabbinic conspiracy altering the words of the Old Testament to stop the massive conversion of Jews to the Christian faith. These early alterations (ca.A.D. 90-120) sought to obscure the Bible's Messianic prophecies, concealing passages most often used by Christian evangelists proclaiming that Jesus was the Jewish Messiah. The former Pharisees (cum Rabbis) reduced biblical chronology by 1,600 years, compressing the crucial events of Genesis (e.g., the Flood, the invasion of the Nephilim, and the Tower of Babel). This truncated chronology damaged the Bibless witness regarding ancient history which continues to have a vast impact on Evangelicals today.Woodward's research unlocks the timing when Solomon's Temple was completed, the era of the Judges, the conquest of Canaan, the Exodus, and the births of Jacob, Isaac, and Abraham. It sets the stage for Part 2, which argues for the historicity of the amazing stories from Genesis 1-11.The book presents a lively discussion of how the Alexandrian Septuagint was created, demonstrating its greater accuracy in rendering the original Hebrew autographs than the familiar Bibles of today. Finally, the Septuagint's authentic chronology enables biblical history to be reconciled with Egyptology and Mesopotamian Archeology, strengthening the case fo the inspiration of the Bible.
This is a very clear and easy to read book about some serious subject matter, the Hebrew alteration of the Masoretic texts so that Christians could not use accurate dating. At first, I thought the subject was pretty bizarre, but the proof is laid out very carefully in two volumes. This is only a report on the first volume and, although I have talked with the author, I have not had time to purchase volume 2. Woodward writes in a very clear fashion about an alteration to the Masoretic texts of the Bible. His citations are accurate and he divides the content into well-organized and well-written sections. Unlike so many theological books these days about complex subjects, Woodward writes for easy understanding by the layman. I cannot say how much this is a relief for me, but it should prevent those who wish to read about the subject from shying away from it. It flows very well. My main criticism, which is not terribly bothersome, is that he tends to repeat himself. I have decided that he does this in order to push the points home with the reader, much like a good teacher who repeats how certain points relate to different issues. He never loses track of the main thesis of the book and I give him much credit for not wandering off into ancillaries. The author is an excellent scholar of the Bible and does not approach the subject matter in a haphazard way. Nor is this a conspiracy theory which will lead us to strange and uncorroborated conclusions. The book is extremely well documented, and Woodward's conclusions are very compelling. I purchased the volume 1 before I spoke to Woodward, and he advised me to purchase volume 2 because it summarizes the arguments of volume 1. However, I am thoroughly intrigued with volume 1 and I will without a doubt, read volume 2 very soon. I cannot say enough about the importance of these books because it goes to the accuracy of the Bible, explaining in what ways our modern translations of the Masoretic text are inaccurate. This would include all of Tyndale's work and therefore the King James. However, when I have spoken to people in the trade, (if one may refer to theology as a trade,) I have experienced hesitation from the community, suggesting that this is a very small matter and, even if correct, Woodward is not pointing to an error that is significant to the modern Bible reader. I find this very distressing because we should definitely understand the dating of Biblical chronology because it opens up many of the truths of the Bible as a whole. I recommend this to anyone who cares to understand the background of the Biblical subject matter and, especially, how serious the differences between the Christian and Jewish community in the early centuries after Christ.
All praise to my living and Holy God! I am so thankful to my LORD Jesus Christ for guiding me to this book! All the doubts the enemy tried to sow in my soul when I first came to Jesus and was born again have been melted away forever. The last thing I had in the back of my mind that I had determined to trust God about was the references that New Testament authors made to the Old Testament never really seemed to make sense. I now know that in 90% of the verses referenced by the LORD Jesus and the authors of the books of the NT were sourced from the Septuagint. I had trusted that the Holy Spirit had given them divine interpretation of the OT scriptures and had come away with meanings that seemed not to align with the original OT meaning. However, I now see that the Septuagint is a closer translation to the original Hebrew scrolls than the Masoretic texts used to create most of our English translation Bibles. God is good and faithful! I had asked him to reveal His Word to me and He has! Example:
Hebrews 10:5-6 NIV Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; [6] with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.
Masoretic Text in KJV of Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
Septuagint 40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not; but a body hast thou prepared me: whole-burnt-offering and sacrifice for sin thou didst not require.
I can't wait to read the next book in this two volume series that Mr. Woodward has faithfully prepared as a servant glorifying our God and His Word!
