Rennie is a surgical trauma nurse, a strong and independent woman. Yet, between her inability to save every life and the latest fiasco in her love life, she realizes she desperately needs a change. So she heads out west, and finds herself staying at a bed and breakfast in South Dakota. While on horseback in the Black Hills, she loses her way and takes a terrible fall down the side of a mountain. When she awakens, she finds herself in a hidden village of Lakota Indians where time seems to have stood still. She also finds herself at the complete mercy of John Red Hawk, the one man who has both antagonized and attracted her—is he the wealthy playboy rancher she thought him to be, or the proud Lakota warrior who now refuses to let her go? Can Rennie find her hopes for tomorrow while living in the shadow of yesterday?
