Life is an adventurous and winding road, and License to Learn delivers a flexible and intriguing map so that you can navigate your own unique journey. With this map, you are invited to see life's experiences-some chosen, some not-differently, and to make meaning from them in new ways. The key is that the so-called "comfort zone" is truly not the place to be when you want to learn, grow, or develop-except as a place to rest and reflect before heading "out" again. License to Learn aims to improve your ability to learn from your own life experience, and the genre-breaking format will lure you in with true tales of all kinds to use as examples. With this map as your guide, you can change your relationship to discomfort. And you can become your own best teacher.

I highly recommend this book for people who love learning and/or want to grow. Part memoir and part self-improvement, this book is an exploration of learning and life. Anna uses her life’s stories to explain how we can move in and out of our learning zone. She is willing to be seen as imperfect, explains her mistakes and miscalculations, and the lessons that came from them.

I consider myself a lifelong learner and this book changed my model of learning and discomfort. One personal takeaway is the revelation that there are other zones and that it is unnecessary to always be in the learning zone.

I will no doubt go back to my notes in this book and use this model for personal reflection. Anna has traveled and learned so much. Reading this book simultaneously feels like having coffee with a good friend and being in a classroom with your favorite teacher.

I love this book! It was hard to put down.

The author, Anna Switzer, is a student of adventure, psychology and life, and this is the story of how she’s helped others transform their lives, all the while growing into the remarkable human being she is today.

It’s an adventure story and tool kit. Anna imparts her knowledge to us through wonderful storytelling, enhanced with practical how-to's. She helps us identify what's not working in our lives (anxiety, stress, doubt) and then shows us to how break through those limitations, trust ourselves and dare to blossom.

Anna’s a longtime Outward Bound instructor who uses her experience to help others grow emotionally and spiritually. I love learning from her because she demonstrates clearly how we can continue to push our boundaries to grow and thrive.

“License to Learn” is transformational yet practical, inspirational yet achievable.

Thank you, Anna, for creating a springboard for personal liberation and growth!.

I have read book three times. Margins full of ideas for students and myself. Switzer visually diagrams the complexity of learning. Learning encompasses not academics but permission to be curious and struggle to emerge from challenges. Concise, precise and helpful, I have been recommending this books to educators and friends.

License to Learn is not like anything you have read before. It genre-bends a beautiful tapestry of personal story with a guidebook for life. Dr. Switzer weaves together her story into a framework for uncovering our Known Zones to our Learning Zones and ultimately to our Gift Zone.

Each of her stories penetrated my soul; fear, joy, pain, adventure, heartbreak...all of this is a part of the normal human experience. In moments, I felt like I was sitting on a comfy sofa drinking hot tea with Anna and being transformed through story. And while Anna shares her soul with us she also provides very concrete tools to analyze and reflect upon our own experiences. I found myself cutting out my own diagrams and playing with my personal life scenarios and what Anna's framework means for me.

This book has lingered in my heart and head as I work and engage in the world. I have been able to use the teachings with my kids and those in my profession--the lessons are universal. It is a powerful reminder that we do not have to stay stuck, and it is ok to find our place of comfort in order to move toward our most joyous place in the Gift Zone.
