"Almost a Celebrity" is the no-holds-barred autobiography of radio shock jock James Whale, a man who, for over thirty years, has never been afraid to say the unsayable
whilst I don't agree with any of his opinions, it was an interesting look at the man's life on and off the radio. Worth the £1 I paid in WHSmiths and certainly whiled away the long wait between buses.
Salvaged this from my late muvva's bookshelf as hoped it would be an interesting first-hand oral history of early commercial radio. Instead it mostly consisted of ignorant rants from a bitter old man, transcribed by a ghost writer. One star for the promising start including the Gary Glitter / TopShop radio anecdotes, another for the thoughts on reproduction, but in all just a bit sad.
I came close to given this only 2 stars as it just does not live up to the billing. But it was interesting and im glad i read it even though i feel a little cheated from the summary on the back!
