There are many portions of the Book of Genesis that are debated today. Some of the debates concern modern science while others do not. In The Genesis Debate, there are eleven different topics discussed by authors holding opposing viewpoints. Each chapter contains someone's argument for the affirmative position and another for the negative position

I have to be honest and say that I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand it is very helpful to see the opposing views laid out side by side. I oftentimes found my own views on Genesis to be challenged or strengthened as a I read the book. This I enjoyed. But, on the other hand, at times it would have been better to have had 3 or 4 different articles rather than 2 because of the variety of viewpoints that are out there on the questions considered in the book. I left some of the chapters thinking that more needed to be said because of this.

A small thing should also be said here about the readability of the book. These are scholarly articles that are debating a position, which changes the readability of the text. But, there was one thing that drove me crazy about the book. The opposing articles each take up half of the page. So, even though the affirmative spanned 14 pages, it only spanned the top half of 14 pages. The negative argument would span the bottom 14 pages. I was almost driven mad by reading only the top or bottom half of a page, but I guess that is a small thing in the grand scheme of things.

If you are interested in reading about the many debates in the Book of Genesis, then you may enjoy this book.

Here is a breakdown of the topics.

*Were the Days of Creation 24 hours long?
*Are the events in the Genesis Creation Account set forth in chronological order?
*Was the Earth created a few thousand years ago?
*Was Evolution involved in the process of creation?
*Is the doctrine of the Trinity implied in the Genesis creation account?
*Was Cain's offering rejected by God because it was not a blood sacrifice?
*Were there people before Adam and Eve?
*Did people live to be hundreds of years old before the Flood?
*Are the "Sons of God" in Genesis 6 angels?
*Did Noah's Flood cover the entire world?
*Does Genesis 9 justify Capital Punishment?
