Robbie is a four-footed warrior trained to sniff out bombs. For over a year Robbie trains with an army soldier and learns how to find landmines. The dog travels to Afghanistan to go to work saving lives with his special talent. With help from his handler, Robbie makes sure Afghan children and their villages safe from these devices. He even wins a hero award. Soldiers appreciate Robbie because he keeps them out of harm’s way, too. Robbie’s handler disappears and the dog is left all alone. No one takes care of him causing him to become weak. Then one day the familiar face of his old friend and trainer appears at his crate. When the soldier realizes how sick Robbie is the man takes the K9 back to the United States where they are met by a group of people from Mission K9 Rescue. These caring people nurse Robbie back to health. The road to recovery is long and hard, but Robbie discovers warriors never give up. Mission K9 Rescue - rescue, rehabilitate, repair, re-home and reunite these military dogs with their handlers or a soldier who is suffering from PTSD. The proceeds from this book will go to help with the cost of healing these wounded warriors who served our country.
Tierney James teaches Fundamentals of World Geography at a nearby college. Besides living on the Qualla Reservation for a time, floating down the Okavango River in Botswana, Africa and exploring China, Tierney has been fortunate enough to serve as Solar System Ambassador for NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab.She served as Astronomy Night Chairperson for several years in her school district and was awarded the Teacher of the Year award by her peers in 2007. The setting for An Unlikely Hero was a real life experience for Tierney in northern California. She later moved her family to a Missouri mining town where she raised her children. These days if Tierney isn't writing,teaching or traveling you'll find her working in the garden.
