An Essential Book If You Fit the Category

I think I have read just about every book by New York lawyer Anthony S. Park as I think he does an excellent job explaining complex legal and financial topics well. This particular book is well suited for me as I will at some point be a “solo ager”. While I am not a senior (or ager) yet, I am in my early 50s, so it is not that far over the horizon. This book is super short (8K words or so) and on point. It can be read quickly. But it goes into a lot of ideas that anyone who is a senior, unmarried, and childless (whether you have no actual children or are estranged from them) should consider when making an estate plan. The author states that the solo ager needs to consider three things that people with spouses and families don't usually need to consider. I think the first one is the most important, and one that I really hadn't thought of: create an estate plan that protects you if or when you become vulnerable as you age, whether that's from physical or mental illness or frailty. He shared some pretty frightening examples from his case files, where details have been changed to protect identity, that get you thinking that you need to sort this out sooner rather than later to make sure you do have that protection when you become vulnerable. After all, it happens to more people than it doesn’t. I am a nurse, and while I have seen the lucky few who make it to their late eighties and nineties relatively hale and hearty, that does not seem to be the norm from what I've seen. The rest of the book is worth reading as well. He writes in an easy-to-understand style, even when he is discussing complex topics. If you fall into this category, pick up this book. You can certainly help make your golden years better for you and perhaps even bring you joy as you consider your legacy and who you want to leave your money and assets to.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

good advice

This book is well written. Some might say that it is brief, but I think it’s written to be on point. I trust it. There’s also the possibility of contacting the author, pursuing the references.
