The COVID-19 pandemic will forever change how business is conducted. This is true whether you offer a service or sell a product. "Social distancing" will ease at some point, but it is my belief that virtual connection with employees and customers will continue to skyrocket. Although we have all these exciting emerging technologies and trends, we should not forget basic marketing Marketing Strategies 101 . As we transition or pivot in our Post COVID-19 world, let's maintain this good foundation of marketing fundamentals.
If you're looking for inside information about the band Kansas, you should probably read Kerry's earlier book "Seeds of Change" which talks more about Kerry's life and his time in Kansas and his eventual conversion to Christianity. This book is more of a hodge-podge of stories throughout Kerry's life, in no particular order. There are a few good tales from his Kansas days but most of the book is from other aspects of his life and each story is an example of a "miracle" of some sort. Some are humorous, some are about family, some are about the band. Some are amazing coincidences. Most are interesting. The most riveting part for me was his listing of his diary entries during his wife's battle with cancer. I found it a touching insight about the emotional trials families must go through dealing with this disease and a loved one who has it. I bought this book direct from Kerry's website at Numavox.com. I believe it is also available on Amazon.
This book was a bit of an unexpected gem. I bought the Kindle edition, mainly as I have been a fan of Livgren's work (in and outside of Kansas) and have followed his faith journey for years. This is written in a very "folksy" style of journal life-anecdotes, and contains some fairly startling revelations in terms of supernatural power at work in Kerry's life, as well as that of his wife Vicci and others, too. There are some remarkable stories of healing (e.g., "Recovered" and his "Afterward"), and some very funny anecdotes, too (let's just say, a bit of practical advice for the novice cow-owner). I might have taken a half-star off for some editing issues on this self-published volume, but decided to review it up rather than down in that case. I would recommend this, and have already found myself quoting some of the stories to friends and in my classroom.
Mr. Livgren is one of my heros! Thank you for sharing your life and your music with us, sir!
Loved every story, but the one about the van driver praying during that 1979 concert in Indianapolis and what happened after, takes the cake! “Carry on my wayward son, there will be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to rest, don’t you cry no more…”. The stories Mr. Livgren has shared have deeply encouraged my heart, again confirming, our Lord Jesus sees each of us. He truly loves each of us and desires fellowship with each of us. Thank you, God and thank you, Mr. Livgren!
Great read! Easy read! Wonderful stories, antecdotes and observations from former guitarist, keyboardist and principal songwriter, Kerry Livgren! His chapter stories are non-sequential, so you might get a snapshot from his childhood Topeka, Kansas, his time spent living in Atlanta, GA or a trip to Japan with Kansas. All in all, every story keeps you engaged and interested.
I have always been a huge Kansas fan so my review may slightly skewed. This book is about some of the miracles that have touched the lives of Kerry Livgren (one of the founding fathers of the band Kansas). My only complaint is I wish to hear more about the band. Some of the very short stories are interesting, some are funny and the Afterword is very sad.
Livgren chronicles the miracles he's seen throughout his life in short episodes including his wife's cancer journey. If you're a fan of Livgren and Kansas you'll enjoy this collection of vignettes.
