Is There a Laser in the House? Understanding Your High-Tech Everyday World

Rate this book
This book was written for anyone who ever wanted to know how things work but did not want to take a science course to find out! It explains many very basic and essential concepts in physics, but does so by describing how devices and natural phenomena work that you see every day, in plain English, and with a minimum of math. It also, textbook-wise, makes an excellent primary book for a 100-level introductory or conceptual physics course, or as a supplement for the more difficult courses. It is fun and easy to read, and it would make a great gift to anyone who loves to learn and read books. If you compare the Introduction and the Table of Contents, you can see which physics topics get covered, and the fun and interesting ways in which I chose to cover them. That way, both the student and professor are happy. Enjoy learning about microwave ovens. MRIs, lasers, fiber optic communications, mirages, sunsets, why the sky is blue, how microphones, stereo speakers, tape players and guitar pick-ups work, and so much more!
