Ten stories chosen for their merits as fine literature by excellent writers (Thomas Wolfe, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and others), their collective portrayal of every major Civil War battle, and their portrayal of the Confederate soldier at all levels of command.

As I was reading this book , I realized I had actually been to some of the places these stories took place in. It gave me a different perspective of the battles after reading. One in particular was about John Hunt Morgan’s raid on Cynthiana, Kentucky. Didn’t realize at the time of my visit to the Confederate cemetery circle, I would be reading about the men who fought, died and were buried there. Chilling. Would recommend to anyone interested in our civil war history
