ADVANCE fragments our ability to think and make good choices. Far too often, we try to overcome the fragmentation by long winded words that only burden us with tasks that we can no more carry than run with a broken leg. What I need, and Elizabeth Turnage offers with brilliant simplicity and wisdom, is perspective that cuts to the chase and grounds me in what I know to be true. This life-giving devotional will offer you hope without denying the depths of the struggle.  It will free your heart to be with Jesus.

To recover is to return to normal. But what is normal? Because our lives are bruised and broken by the Fall we know deep down, that is an unrealistic target. Elizabeth Turnage yet again invites fellow sufferers to be nourished daily by doses of life-giving gospel truths. She encourages her readers to set their sights beyond a temporal cure or easy solution—Christ-likeness.

I love Elizabeth Reynolds Turnage's devotions. I have shared her last book with two of my favorite mentors who are in the later stages of their life and dealing with their own medical problems. What I especially like about this devotional is the material can be read in a very short period of time but she has suggested Bible passages that relate to the devotional and music. Elizabeth has been through her own trials and God has carried her through and now she is here to minister to you!

This book will become a treasured support for me, as one who repeatedly experiences crises of health challenges. Each Scripturally-rich devotional has comforted me, as I am reminded that the Lord is sovereign over all things and will finally restore all things in the end. As believers, this is a sure promise! This is the comforting and fear-removing truth I cling to the most, in my deep suffering. I can endure any crisis with Biblical hope in Christ. This devotional book helps me in my daily need for redemptive, gospel-centered truth and, as a special bonus of care, the author shares songs that help me to sing truth. I will be giving this book as gifts to many others in crisis.

Finding good devotional material is sometimes a struggle. Many books are simplistic/fundamentalist in style and content. On the other extreme are books about crystals and animal spirits and vibes and energy, all very difficult to really connect with. Turnage pulled together a book of 60 meditations focused on the reality of recovery and restoration - not necessarily 12-step Recovery (although it would certain fit), but recovery from illness, loss, hurricanes, bodily function, and grief, and how God works to bring restoration and renewal into our lives. Admittedly, a few of the selections get a little too focused on "the good news of getting to heaven when we die." But most deal with God's promises and strength for today, in the midst of current hardships, and how those promises give up hope amidst the challenges. Turnage speaks from her own experiences, and connects them to Scripture, which made the reflections feel more real and true. I would commend this as a helpful and positive resource to start each morning with a thought of encouragement and hope.

How do we live life after a crisis? Normal as we knew it no longer describes our days. Elizabeth Turnage’s book of meditations, Recovery to Restoration, acknowledges the anguish of crisis, then comforts and motivates us to exceed “getting over it” to the point we gain positive change from the experience. Elizabeth extends hope with sure backing from scripture. Each of the sixty meditations include a scripture, a prayer, suggested related readings, a pertinent song, and a thought for reflective journaling. Her personal struggles, research and thought-filled insights go beyond what the doctor ordered for whole healing.

What are you recovering from? A life-threatening illness or injury? The loss of a loved one? A financial setback? Abandonment? Life seems out of control? Uncertainty reigns?

Elizabeth Turnage’s book From Recovery to Restoration was written for such a time as this. Sharing from her personal experiences of pain and loss, Elizabeth writes vulnerably and with vivid word pictures. In this 60-day devotional, covering myriad causes of trauma, you will journey through Scripture for encouragement and hope, connecting with the likes of King David in a dark valley, assured that the Good Shepherd was always with him. Each chapter guides you to personal prayer and reflection. Recovery is possible and restoration becomes reality.
