An orphaned boy, uncontrollable magic, and a destiny to recover a nation’s honor.
Ren has a knack for ending up imprisoned.
Not what he envisioned when he embarked on his journey to the Sapphire Nation, but jail gave him time to think about his misadventure.
Ren’s only hope for getting out of jail and attending the sorcerer’s exam, rests with two thieves he barely knows. They got him into this mess, but can they get him out?
The bigger question is ‘Can Ren even pass?’

Sorcerer’s Trial is the third book in the Chronicles of the Seventh Realm, a bite-size epic fantasy series. Ren may be the “chosen one”, but Chronicles of the Seventh Realm is a sprawling series of characters, with many tales to explore. This is the third book of Ren’s Tale. You can start at the beginning with Orphan’s Price.
Nicholi (N A K Baldron) is the international best-selling author of the Chronicles of the Seventh Realm, where Science, Magic, and Two Worlds Collide.
He lives in a small town outside of Austin, Texas with his life partner Sabetha Danes and their daughter whom they homeschool. After years of living in the city with the big house, they chose to downsize to their tiny house and dedicate their lives to art. Their long-term goal is to live on a sailboat and see the world.
We're back in Ren's world, and he finds himself still in a bad situation. With the test just a day away he finds himself still in jail, but Shaya is working on the outside to get him freed though so he doesn't miss his opportunity. As the test starts we get a look at a now more grown up version of the twins Adaku and Abaze who are also taking the test. In the end five are chosen to join the Amethyst Nation to begin their training. Will Ren thrive? Will Shaya's clan survive until the next time of daggers? I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens as the series continues. I would recommend this book
Following Ren's story has been quite the adventure! Ren, Shaya, and Akio are young adults who have left childhood behind a long time ago, although Ren is still the gentlest of the three. In this story, we also get to know the royal twins, Adaku and Abaze, and what has made them who they are today when they're at the sorcerer's trial. Ren is languishing in jail and worried that he won't even make it to the trials! The question is, if he does make it, will he be ready?
This episode has lots happening with many good scenes. It was a little choppy in places like when switching POVs, but it’s such an interesting story that I didn’t mind having to reread pieces. I definitely want to find out what happens next!
I’m looking forward to reading Brandon’s story as well as the rest of Ren’s Tale to follow the teaser bits NAK has left in the first three books. The world of Fencura is rich with stories and characters that have their own self. I hope the author behind the vibrant and varied stories of Fencura becomes a highly prolific author so I can read more about Shaya and Ren and Akio. And so many others.
Another brilliant read. The continued story of Ren’s journey to become a sorcerer. The books are short enough to enjoy in one sitting but long enough to get your teeth into and immerse yourself in his world . It has the promise of continuing to be an excellent fantasy series.
This is an outstanding read. Don't misunderstand me, I really wish the books had all been wrote or boxed into one book. That does not mean they are not a fantastic series and a great read. I also like the fact that there are strong leaders. For instance, not counting the Ruler or Emperor? Who rules most of the lands, there are 7 Thief Lords who rule the inner blocked and barred city. Each of these has 1 First Sworn as a personal guard. Out of these 7 Thief Lords there is only 1 woman, Kaito-Tanken Shaya. There are other women who are part of the Thief Lords clans but none who rule. Shaya inherited the positio because both her Father and Brother were killed. Leaving her clan only with herself and her First Sworn, Akio. When Ren arrives to attend the mage trials he gets in debt gambling. Shaya covers his debt and he joins her clan at least until the Mage Trials. Unfortunately, he is set up and thrown in prison before the then. What can Shaya and Akio do? Will Ren languish in prison and miss the Mage trials? Will Shaya and Akio be killed by the traitors who set Ren up? Read the next book and find out !
Following more of Rens story was a thrill. Stuck in jail with little to do but hope that his new friends can help him out of a jam. Honor by blood. This series really has me hooked. Highly recommended
Ren is freed from prison/jail and is ready to take his place in the test. We also get to meet a set of twins, and more from Shaya and Akio also. Very interesting dynamics through out the book, and I really look forward to reading more and finding out just how everything plays out.
Ren tries to do as asked by Shaya but gets put in prison. Shaya brings it to the attention of the clans that there is an informant in the group. She frees Ren from prison in time to go to the examination .The outcome is quite a surprise.
Ren's Tale drew me in from the first sentence. I love the use of prologues. The characters are well thought out and the action is not forced anywhere. Emotions are spot on for everyone in each scenario. I truly can't wait for the next installment of Ren's Tale. Off to read Akio's!
