Trigger Warnings: Contains graphic violence
Book 2 of the Vendetta Series, ends in a cliffhanger. This must be read after Il Padrone, Book 1 of the Vendetta Series. It cannot be read as a standalone.
Leigh is a dark M/M romance author from Texas who writes villains of varying degrees. She considers coffee a major food group and her family fears broken coffeemakers. She writes in her spare time, forced to the keyboard by characters entirely too vocal in her opinion and often falls victim to plot monkeys. In between creating mayhem with her characters and friends, her hope is to transport readers to fictional places and provide darkness with a twist.
4.5 stars. He's the godfather. They have to obey him, or else... He admires but doesn't love. He has boys who'll go through fire for him. He's ruthless, vicious, deadly mean, calculated, and above the law. He thinks of Emilio as special but he can't afford weakness so he goes extra rough.
I still don't like Allesandro but in the context, he's who he supposed to be, so that's a big plus for the author. There is so much going on, in big lines, there are the Italians and the Irish. Emilio is Allesandro's boy and the Irish want Emilio. It's about the dynamic of Allesandro's clan. A power game with Allesandro as head of the family. There is a lot of sexual activity, powerful, demanding, and humiliating. The battle of the fittest, all questionable. The cliff is huge. An awesomely written story, quite powerful. It has an intriguing plot. Can't wait for #3!!
4.5 stars - This story picks up where the previous book left us hanging. Emilio is recovering from taking the bullet they all believe was meant for Allesandro. As the gang tries to figure out who made the attempt, things are stirring up with the Irish and from within Allesandro’s own family. All of it seems to center around Emilio. Seems there is a lot more to Emilio ending up with Allesandro than his brother simply giving him over to save his own neck.
Emilio seems to be more fully accepting of his role as one of Allesandro’s boys and now has his sights set on vengeance on his brother. Apparently Allesandro saw the dark side in Emilio early on and everything Emilio has gone through has only solidified and nourished those feelings. Allesandro creates opportunity and uses it as Emilio’s final test to graduate from toy to boy status. Once accomplished (which Emilio did with flying colors), Allesandro names Emilio’s position as his advisor. This causes some unease in the ranks of the others, some good, some bad, and of course, the bad is dealt with quickly, as Allesandro never hesitates to punish or recondition his boys to remind them he is king.
As with the previous book, Allesandro is a ruthless leader – he doesn’t love his boys – he loves his position and will do anything to maintain that role. There are some new twists in this segment that shake up that status. Luca is still Allesandro’s second, but, as I said, there is a definite shift happening and we are left to wonder who is going to side with who, who will be successful and who will be left in the end. There are various takeover attempts, twists and turns, and we are left with another cliffhanger that ends with a bit of an eye opener that leaves you eager to jump into the final segment. Thankfully, it looks like we won’t have to wait too long to get it.
Heed the warnings on this, as there is quite a bit of violence (although not as much as book 1). This is not a romance by any stretch of the imagination. It is definitely exciting and will keep you turning pages.
This one was better than the first one, we get more plot and a good and very intriguing ending, however, there is still no glance of romance and way too much sharing for my taste, I almost feel like this should be assigned a MMM+ tag and I'm getting a bit tired of it very quickly. Some scenes are still quite brutal and unnecessary although I was expecting them after the first book.
There is still not much character development, I know nothing about their background or any major thing about their lives and that makes it harder to connect and sympathise with them. I usually love my dark characters but with Alessandro, I don't feel any kind of connexion, I just want him to actually suffer, I don't see a slight redeeming quality at all, also, Emilio is confusing the heck out of me, his vengeance is kind of undirected if you ask me
Holy wow. This book. This book. I'll start off by saying that cliffhanger both proved I was right during the first book and it's such a TEASE! Evil authors are evil. How do you end a book like that and expect me to wait?
When I said that book 1 wasn't dark enough, I didn't mean for this book to get lighter. Never fear, it's still dark, but it is by far nicer than book 1 was. Some of that is because Lio is coming into his own. He's playing the game and conforming to the boy Allesandro wants him to be because he understands that will get him what he wants. It doesn't always work out for him because he still has a lot to learn, but he's learning. The Stockholm Syndrome is strong with this one.
Allesandro on the other hand, is still the big tough, mafia boss at the top. He proves it over and over that he is the boss. It's so good. What you see is what you get with him. With some surprises thrown in. There are unexpected feels. Not what a romance reader would expect and want, but for this book and these characters, it's sweet for them. There's a long way to go but we see some softening to Lio from both Allesandro and some of the boys.
Again, this author threw me for a loop with one of her twists. I was looking at the wrong person the entire time and I should have known better. The hints were there, I was just too caught up in the rest of the story to realize it. Not at all a bad thing to be. But it left me kicking myself because I'm better than that *applauds Leigh Kenzie*
I need book 3 now. I have a feeling we're just getting started.
I’m glad that the sequel to this book has already been written because this one ends on a cliffhanger. Getting darker and more convoluted with big surprises at the end I just love it.
very good.. it is graphic and interesting.. it is sexy and horrible.. it is wonderful and amazing. haha.. so much fun and keeps me happy and i loved it so much.. it does end on a cliffhanger and i cant wait for the next one.
My jaw is on the floor. OMG! This book. I need the next one NOW!

I-CAN'T-THINK-STRAIGHT.
This book blew my head. Really, what the hell did I read?! Oh hell, I'm so hooked with this story!
After reading the first book I really couldn't wait the second, because that cliffhanger killed me - but if I thought then that was a killer cliffhanger I don't know what to think now, because holyhell!!!!
I really enjoed the story, the characters were as great as in the first book, the storyline interesting and exciting, we got to see more Alessandro and Emilio...and Luca....just OMG!
That twist at the end was breathtaking. I couldn't remember the last time I was this excited to read the next book, because I just NEED to know.
4,5 star for me and HIGHLY recommend. Phew what a read this was!
Most of these are not likeable characters honestly, but there is a code which you can respect. Expect lots of action, a bit of intrigue and a lot of dark, smexy times. Huge twist at the end of this book, which I only saw coming 0.2 secs before it was delivered. You've got to give Emilio credit, he's the only one that's not just going along with it. I think there are more TWs for this book, so please read these carefully if you may be affected. Looking forward to the next - I must know what happens next.
I received an ARC for an honest and voluntary review.
Luca is the mvp im sorry he did nothing wrong. Dude is the nicest and sanest of them all. Allesandro and lio are very unlikeable and luca is what has kept me reading now the novel 3 reads like im supposed to see luca as the villian?? Hell nah i will drop the novel as soon as they kill luca which im assuming will happen bcuz how dare the not lead dude be the most interesting thing in the whole novel series. Feel bad for cliff tho kinda even though he did kill his mom.
So this 2nd book totally drew me in and I’m loving it, can’t put it down...then BAM! I had to go back and reread what I just read because I just couldn’t believe it! Why oh why? Please don’t make it true…I have to take a break because I don’t want it to be confirmed in the 3rd book...I’m torn
Holy betrayal, Batman! I knew we were being headed down a deceptive road, but this road was paved with hellacious intentions.
I don’t want to give anything away, but I knew who the betrayer was. I just knew it! If you paid attention to the telltale signs, it wasn’t a hard jump. I just didn’t want to believe my inclination was correct. The ending of this book is one where you simply cannot fathom how things are going to turn around, but boy, I can’t wait to see how it does.
Lio, for his part, is way down deep in the rabbit hole of The Family. The club scene, near the beginning of the book made me wince a million times for Lio. Between the humiliation factor and the pain? Poor boy. But Lio gets himself a promotion after a final test from Padrone and what a test it was. The “celebration” after? My lord, how Lio could even walk after that…I will never know. Lio comes into in own and by the end of this book, we are truly let wondering what exactly that will mean for Lio and his position within The Family.
There is all sorts of debauchery and degradation throughout, for all the Boys, not just Lio. I want to believe things get better for them, but I don’t think that’s in the cards. The warning for book 3 says that it’s darker than book 1 and 2. Whew, I best buckle up then, ‘cause I am all in with The Family!
This book starts where Il Padrone ends and again, heed the warnings. While this book has a bit more balance, it's still dark and deals with some extreme situations that had me cringing.
I really liked Emilio here, he's really coming into his own and I think he really can become a force to be reckoned with in the future. I still don't like Allesandro, even if he showed signs that he's thawing towards Emilio and at this point, at least for Emilio, the devil you know might be better than the one you don't know.
Of Allesandro's other boys, the only one I really liked is Ignacio. I loved how he and Emilio interact with each other. Luca seemed nice enough, at first, at least nicer than Allesandro, but that twist in the end, while not completely surprising, makes me wonder how things are going to play out in the next book.
Overall, as I said before I found this book more balanced. It's still dark, but we saw Emilio become more than just a toy within Allesandro's organization and he plotline with Emilio's Irish family and how it tied up with Allesandro's mother was intriguing and I can't wait to see how it will all play out in the next book.
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure, a review wasn't a requirement. ***
I liked this book better than the first. I don’t know if it was because I already knew what to expect or how things went through, but It just felt easier to read and connect with the story. Don’t get me wrong this is not a conventional read, it’s not meant for the faint of heart. It’s still a dark, raw and gritty story, with no sunshine and rainbows, no love, just pain and blood. Emilio is different in this book, he hardened, became darker. Long gone is the innocent, naive little boy that was abandoned at Alessandro’s feet by his own brother. Now in its place stands a man, broken, betrayed, and full of nothing but the hunger for revenge. Alessandro’s still the cold and calculating mobster, he gets off on their pain, on being in control and treating all the others as his property, which basically, they are. I can now understand better the dynamics and relationships in the book. It’s kind of twisted and cruel, but it brings depth to the story. I’m definitely invested in this series, no matter how dark or painful it becomes, I really want to get to the end of it and see how it all ends 🖤
In the second book in this series, we continue with Allesandro's and Emillio's dark story. I wondered if the story would pick up and we would get more action, but it still felt a bit slow for me.
Emillio's character change was a bit surprising to me and I would have liked to read more about where it came from. There are quite a lot of time skips, which, while maybe necessary for the timeline in the story, also made for a bit chaotic read. Surprisingly, also Allesandro's character is changing slowly, but again, it was unclear to me why. I didn't get to really know the main characters beyond their basic thoughts, which feels like a shame. I would have loved to get drawn deeper into the story and feeling more connected to the characters.
At the end of the story, we suddenly get a third POV and we end the story with a minor cliffhanger that also happens to be a huge spoiler for the rest of the story. I think the story would have been much more intriguing if we hadn't gotten that spoiler/cliffhanger at the end.
Overall, the story did pick up a bit more speed and it's becoming more clear where the rest of the series is going. It made me want to keep on reading and I want to pick up the next book to see what's going to happen next.
For the sophomore book in the series, some authors fail while others succeed. Did the author succeed? You betcha. She did a great job carrying the first story into the second while keeping the plot and the characters fresh. I will do my best not to give away spoilers, but this will be tough.
Let’s start with Il Padrone and his character arc. All I can say is I loved it. I really enjoyed Allesandro even more in this book than the previous one. He’s still his ruthless, sadistic, unforgiving, merciless self, but the author added something else. A peek into his thoughts. There was one thought that completely stood out. The “why” of it all. When I read that, I was like, “Yep, she nailed it, now I am a happy camper knowing what is driving this man.” LOL.
Well, all I can say was that was a rollercoaster! I like the evolution of Lio coming into his own. The stronger bonds that are forming between the boys. (I really have a soft spot for Ignacio!) I keep snickering since Allesandro says he will do anything to protect his boys but it comes across like they mostly need protection from him. All in all, I still enjoyed this, I think more so than the first book. This one really kept me interest waaay more. And oh my god, that ending! I never could have expected that! I almost fell out the chair and had to reread that last chapter a few times since I kept thinking that it HAD to be a misunderstanding or something of that nature! Well played… So yeah, definitely read this. I think it’s a bit underestimated for sure. More people need to get on this series. Excited to continue on to the next book.
Wait.....WHAT?!?! You leave me there?! WTF?! I did not see that freaking twist coming at all. Holy shit. In book one, I was not too sold on this story, but by the ending there was potential to really change my mind with what book two could bring. And let me tell you, I am freaking happy as hell that I decided to stick with this. Yes, the "FAMILY" is still really F'ed up, and Allesandro still made me want to junk punch him...A LOT. My interest in other characters really peaked within this book, and I can't wait to see where book three will take them. I am seriously so on edge right now, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!! When is book three releasing? Oh God, please, someone send alcohol, I need a stiff drink.
Oh wow talk about betrayal, I was so engrossed in this book I kept flipping the pages when I realised it had finished. Lio is still finding his feet at his master's side and after being bombarded by all these truths does something really shocking and final. Il padrone is still being his most bossy self and ruling everyone around him with an iron fist but relents on Lio and offers some touching moments however fleeting. Some very sizzling times and unexpected moments provide comfort after a horrendous occasion. After stunning revelations and all out betrayal from those you hold close a tragic event sends Lio into despair in which he may never recover. The ending came out of left field for me and I'm still puzing over it and I can't wait for vengeance to be reaped.
Generally speaking, the story is good. It kind of reminds me the dynamics with Chained in Darkness Theoden and his boys. But minus the paranormal side. But, it really needs some polishing. There are some scenes that seem a bit unnecessary and dialogues that are OTT. It has a fanfic feel to it. I mean, you can see the authors is still growing. But the story still manages to trap you, to the point I'm devouring this series a day at the time. These are fairly short books so everything is fast paced. And that plot twist at the end. Really nice. I really wan't expecting it. I'm going to start next book right away.
This book highlights all the many layers that create the bigger picture... There are a number of levels of manipulation, betrayals, and hurt presented by a number of main characters that develop as the reader really starts to get into the story...
We see Allesandro and Emilio start to really connect, as well as the Boys connect with Emilio to really start to be more pronounced... The cliffhanger at the end really does leave the reader greedy for the next book... The anticipation is going to be worthy of an immediate download...
MM(+) CLIFFHANGER NONCON/MASTER/MAFIA/POSSESSIVE/DOM/SUB/ SHARING/HURT/COMFORT MULTIPLE 1ST PERSON POV 4.5 OUTTA 5 IN THE 🔥🔥🔥 DEPARTMENT
Allesandro's life revolves around loyalty to him and his Family. He demands it and promises protection in return. Emilio, who seeks vengeance, is asked to kneel and pledge loyalty to Allesandro. Emilio struggles with the decision, fearing he might become a monster. The story explores the complex relationship between vengeance and loyalty, and the emotional turmoil it brings.
I loved this story with the struggles for some characters to make decisions and the family members over who to trust. It was also interesting to read about Emilio's development as a boy and the family dynamics. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MMM and MMM+ story with mature content.
I loved the book so much. Really liking this series. The storyline took a turn I didn't expect, though with the way Master treats the boys, I am really not surprised but I found myself liking Alessandro and cheering him on. Praying for him, he needs to soften a little around Emilio. Luca naughty boy, I really hope he gets his comeuppance. I don't want to spoil it for other readers, though it's such a good story. For only a second published book the author has done a great job selling this story. I love it, maybe this series will save my 2020 for me. October can't come soon enough. I best go tweet this book so others can get it..
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. There is something special about Emilio that Allesandro brings out a darker side to the boy. pain has turned to pleasure, a collar means ownership. Family isn't all it cracks up to be when, only who really is the betrayer of blood? The Loyalty of Luca, Marcus, Ignacio and Antonio are in questioned as Emilio becomes the target of a hit but just who is the real betrayed. There is twist in here that I am loving this darkness that is brewing between the master and his boys, it has a lot of kink from breathe play to hurt/comfort. Now the waiting game again for book 3 love-hate this torture the Author is giving us.
Holy chit - No way!! This ends on the most magnificent, Never in a million years did I see that coming twists I am speechless I'm seriously worried And how did this happen?
Fight!
This is the second book in the series No, it is not a standalone Yes it is twisted, graphic, and passionate
Hold on tight - and NO throwing of the readers (you will need them to see how this ends) All the betrayals. All the blood-shedding. All the lust. It all comes to a catastrophic head with a simple act spawned from jealousy (that is all I am giving you)
Oh yes. The dark and twisted continues. There was nothing I could fault in this book. It gives everything we are promised. There's obsession, force, torture, murder, non-con and a delicious kind of Stockholm syndrome.
Emilio learning his place still, the boys dealing with jealousy and obeying orders and a twist in it all which I did not see coming.
I love the obsession in this one, and how Allesandro doesn't give an inch, how any softness is part of manipulating his boys to obey.
Allesandro and Emilio’s story continues here, and there’s a lot going on- Allesandro is still deeply unlikable, but more context on how/why he is as he is makes him more interesting, with the promise of depth if not relatability. Emilio continues to be the most intriguing part of the story– he’s key to the plot and the steam (there’s a lot of both, but especially the latter) and hard to look away from at any given moment. Plot twists/turn abound, and there’s clearly much more to come here: at this point, I’m along for the ride.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is a dark and twisted tale that ENDS on a cliffhanger!! This was a well written story, very graphic at times! But it was so good, and I now need the next story. Allesandro is a vicious mafia boss and Emilio is his boy, who I believe has Stockholm Syndrome! This story really blew me away!! I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
