That ghost warned us to stay away from Prosper Key. Road trip, anyone?
I’ve dealt with difficult ghosts before, but this guy! He trashed my room , and he wasn’t even the one I had summoned. That was a lady ghost who’s been haunting my friend Molly. We were just trying to figure out how to help this poor lady spirit move on.
Instead we end up on a road trip out to Cedar Key on Florida’s Nature Coast—near where the lady and her angry companion lived until a hurricane destroyed the place in 1896. Somehow, the trip also includes both of my former boyfriends. Awkward.
We find some clues at a haunted hotel and the next day in a cemetery. But there’s no escaping the fact that we have to rent kayaks and paddle out to Prosper Key.
“Because that’s what the bad ghost told us not to do.”
Jack Massa strikes again, and he does not disappoint! Clean, clear prose tells yet another story in the continuing adventures of the irrepressible Abbey Renshaw (Imagine a lovechild of Nancy Drew and Algernon Blackwood's John Silence) and her sidekicks, Molly, Ray-Ray, and Ariel. It’s a rollicking good time: the squad tackles hijinks and dangers both physical and metaphysical as they seek to lay to rest the Victorian victims of a deadly hurricane and frustrated love. All of this is couched in the atmosphere of some of Florida's most idyllic areas mixed with pockets of it that popular imaginaton of the state has not retained, such as Cassadaga. The prose and storytelling was such that this long-term expat Floridian became homesick by the book’s end.
Ghosts of Prosper Key by Jack Massa is the fourth Abby Renshaw adventure. I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. I liked that Abby’s friend Molly is the focus of this story. Molly is still finding her way in the supernatural world and relies on Abby’s expertise when having problems with a ghost. As with the other books in the series, the location of the haunting plays a big role in the story. Thanks to Google, it is easy to see the settings and envision the actions taking place there. I also enjoy the history involved in each tale. While I don’t always agree with the decisions Abby makes, that is because I’m not a teenager. This was an entertaining fast read!
This is a supernatural mystery about a girl name molly who starts having a ghost haunting her dreams. She asks her friend Abby to help since this is right up Abby's alley. While doing a seance they get more then they bargain for and now must try to figure out what forces are at work here. This story will keep you turning pages to find out what forces are at work and why the ghost is haunting Molly's dreams. I don't want to spoil the plot but I really enjoyed the story and the ending. I would recommend this story to others.
Once again I really enjoyed reading the latest Abby Renshaw Book. It's much shorter than the others I read in the series but still has good tension between characters and a fulfilling story arc. I liked it as part of the series which I'm familiar with, but it would also read great as a standalone. The fusion of fantasy with very realistic and human situations (paranoia, tension, etc.) make it appealing to a wide variety of audiences. 5 stars.
