Oliver Napoleon Hill was an American self-help author and conman. He is best known for his book Think and Grow Rich (1937), which is among the best-selling self-help books of all time. Hill's works insisted that fervid expectations are essential to improving one's life. Most of his books were promoted as expounding principles to achieve "success".
Hill is a controversial figure. Accused of fraud, modern historians also doubt many of his claims, such as that he met Andrew Carnegie and that he was an attorney.

1) incredibly detailed support on attitude and its affect on your personal success

2) am I crazy or wasn’t Hill somewhat of a con!?

3) there’s a chapter about his conversations with idols that aren’t actually with him and it was definitely disengaging compared to the rest

4) overall, there is a good amount of valuable information regarding how to carry yourself and the attitude, positivity that can elevate you, unfortunately, it seems that Hill often used these elements more as persuasive and temporary means to sway others in a bind with no lasting success. All the same, here I am reading his book so in some ways, he pulled the ultimate prank. This book reminds me a bit of the schemes where you sell a $20 doc that tells others how to sell a $20 doc. A lot of things we already know. I came out wanting to learn more about Hill personally.

This book is a very dense read and Hill is not joking when he encourages the reader to read only one chapter at a time. I am also going to take the advice Hill gives to reread this book a few times, in order to best understand the content and best analyze how I am currently fitting in with it's teachings and how I can improve moving forward.

There are similarities between this book and 'The Secret', so if you have read that you would have a head start on understanding some of the concepts discussed by Hill. Hill's primary focus in this book is the power of our thoughts and how they can influence all areas of our lives. I do believe that following Hill's philosophy is likely to lead to success. This has been proven by individuals such as Ali Abdaal, who recommends this book (the reason why I picked it up) and is now a millionaire.

Napoleon Hill was nothing more than an ordinary fraud. He never conducted any research on success and was never acquainted with Andrew Carnegie, John Rockefeller, or Henry Ford. Carnegie never shared his secret of success with Hill. Moreover, Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Ford, whom Hill cites as his sources, gave entirely different advice in their books and articles.

Investigation into Napoleon Hill: Matt Novak. "The Untold Story of Napoleon Hill, the Greatest Self-Help Scammer of All Time", 2016.

What Andrew Carnegie actually said can be found in the article "The Secret of Success: Andrew Carnegie vs. Napoleon Hill. Debunking Think and Grow Rich", 2024.
