Crystal Harris has been in love with her best friend, Brendon Marks, since they were in high school. He was the perfect gentleman, always supportive and encouraging her, and she’s spent the last ten years loving him in secret, too scared to tell him how she feels.
Brendon has a secret himself…he’s in love with his best friend and doesn’t know how to tell her. He doesn’t want to ruin their friendship, but as the days go by, his feelings for Crystal continue to grow stronger and stronger.
What do you do when you feel like your feelings are about to bubble over? When is the perfect time to tell your best friend you’re in love with them? What makes you say, “It’s now or never?”
Now or Never (Harris Sisters book 1) by Nyora René is about best friends Crystal Harris and Brendon Marks. Crystal is a social media influencer and Brendon is a retired NFL player turned gym owner. Crystal and Brendon have known each other since high school, he started off being her math tutor. Crystal has always had feelings for Brendon but over the last year Brendon has developed feelings for her. The air between these two is so charged, I was either screaming one of you say something or kiss! Brendon gives Crystal wife treatment, I mean he bought her a truck for her birthday, she has a spot in his garage, key to his house, he even got her financial advisor. Their intimacy levels are peak even without a sex. They talk every night, have weekly dates and sleepovers. These two were destined to be together! There was no coming between them! I feel bad for all of Brendon’s ex’s because he been taken and not by them! I’m looking forward to future instalments in the Harris sisters series!
That's a good introduction to this book as best friends since high school, Brendan and Crystal had both fallen in love with each other. But was trying not to tell the other as not to ruin their friendship.
I love friend to lover books, and this was very entertaining, it kept my attention the relationship between Crystal and her sisters was right on point. I enjoyed the interaction between B and Crystal it was caring even before the relationship.
Friends knows things about you that other dates wouldn't know. I.e the party you know what to do in time of crisis. I recommend this book if you're looking for a real good read. I'm looking forward to the next Harris book. Chris 😎😎😍
This was a low-mid angst, enjoyable, easy reading friends to lovers-type black romance. I’m a huge fan of the friends to lovers trope so this went down a treat for me. Because there isn’t a lot of conflict, I can see why people who like a lot more.... DRAMA... might find this a little lacking in umph, but personally, I was totally here for this gentle, yet chemistry-filled novel.
The premise is that social media influencers, Crystal, has had a secret crush on former NFL star now gym owner, Brendon since high school. Unbeknownst to her, he’s also caught feelings for her and the two are dancing around their patent attraction for each other until someone makes a move.
My overall impression of this novel is positive. Yes, there were a few things that I think could have made it better- for example, a little more character development for the main characters would have been good. We know the Brendon left the NFL but we never know exactly why or how he feels about it. We never really get to see what endorsements Crystal has or how she feels about her career as an influencer and what her long term goals are. Then Brendon and Crystal go into a social enterprise-type business together to provide housing to homeless veterans which is eminently worthy, but we never get to know why this is a cause important to them- it feels out of the blue. I know some readers might also have issues with Brendon and his potentially overbearing ways at times from a feminist standpoint. Personally for me, Brendon’s care for Crystal was incredibly attractive to me, even the parts where he was overdoing it a little and I liked that he spoiled her so mercilessly. I could have done without the Eloise crazy ex-girlfriend angle, myself, as that two women fighting over a man thing is not my preference to read. That said, I think there was some acknowledgement of the maturity issues they had and the resolution was on point. I definitely want to read the rest of the Harris Sisters’ books when they come out.
Now or Never is book one of The Harris Sisters Series. It is with hopeful expectation that we will have an adventure with each of them. In the first installment, we meet; Crystal, Amethyst, Jade, and Ruby. You will get a kick out of the unique naming convention used by their parents.
Crystal Harris and Brendon Marks lead this series with a friend to lover journey. When they meet, Brendon has agreed to tutor Crystal, which is part of his athletic requirements. Even though she struggles, she hates the fact of having to enlist the help of an upperclassman, and to further add to an already frustrating situation; it is a football jock (Brendon Marks). It is at that moment that things shift. First, the lifelong friendship...until unbeknownst to them, with their actions, the relationship changes into something that tetters friends and processive/intimacy.
Everyone can see the paradigm shift, but you know the age-old excuses of not wanting to muddy the waters or if it's not broken, then leave it alone.
There were many reasons why I enjoyed this book, to name a few, the relationship with the sisters, how Crystal made a hobby into a very lucrative business, the author didn't infuse a lot of back and forth with this couple.
The title Now or Never was unique to the story and is a great read. You will enjoy this story and will have you anticipate the next one.
Thanks, Garden Avenue Press for an advance read opportunity. This review is my honest thoughts and opinion.
Brendon and Crystal began their friendship as high schoolers when he was her math tutor! That friendship persisted all through high school, college and both their career choices on into their present lives straight through to a future that has marriage in it and down the road children. All in all, this was a very good love story that had it's share of drama from one of Brendon's exes who took a veiled threat from Crystal in order for her to get a clue and fade to the place exes go which is on! There were humorous moments that made me laugh and the loyalty between these sisters warmed the cockles of my heart. I did enjoy this love story very much in fact, very much!
I loved the Harris sisters. This is book one in the series, and it's off to a fine start. It takes talent to write a good friends to lovers romance. The story was complete and not mired in angst. Th e characters were solid and well a developed. It's his was so well-written that I am anxious for more. Bravo!
Absolutely love this book. Brendon is definitely the man of my dreams. He and Crystal make a great couple. Hope to read Jade, Ruby and Amethyst story soon. Great author. Thanks for sharing.
I was with it right up until the heroine decided to make someone else's miscarriage about herself. Brendon, you deserve better. And more character development.
Loved this book. Brendon is every women’s dream. I know he is mine 😀. Crystal is so in love with her best friend not knowing he feels the same about her. This is such a great friends to lover story.
