The tenth novella in the Caribbean Cruise Cozy mystery series by Susan Harper has Felix’s overprotected younger sister, Amelia, arrive on the Caribbean Honey to enjoy a vacation with her supposed friends, but the reader learns quickly that they are not very good friends. They seem to belittle her for not being sufficiently affluent.
On an excursion, one of their number gets murdered and Felix and Hope must intercede on Amelia’s behalf to discover the culprit. Despite the author’s over-reliance on coincidence and contrivance I find myself enjoying the entire series and I’m certain to finish all 12 novellas, regardless. However, I think the stories would have felt less gimmick-ridden had they been spaced out over the course of a year.
This time it is Felix's sheltered sister, Amelia, who joins her brother on the Caribbean Honey. Although she has a crush on wealthy Henry, his brat pack friends tell Amelia (the daughter of the cruise line owner) that she is only interested in him for his money. On a visit to Hemingway House in Key West, Brad, one of the spoiled rich kids, is murdered. Hope finds a cat covered in blood splatter and then witnesses the cat vomit up an earring.
Esperanza, the young woman who was rescued from human traffickers in the previous novel, turns out to be Hope's identical sister. It was Dae-un who heard the story of how Hope was abandoned by her father at a hospital in Texas and said, "Hey, you really do look alike and Esperanza had a baby sister who was taken to the US by their father". Small world!
On a positive note, Hope is now smirking on a less frequent basis. Did someone finally tell the author the unpleasant connotation this word carries?
Things are progressing nicely, Hope and Felix are getting along better and their characters are developing nicely. The rest of the cast aboard ship and in Felix's family deem to be somewhat static. Maybe this is just me wanting more than these short-ish tales can provide. Anyway this is a minor quibble - I likes the tale and look forward to the next. Good read!
We meet Filex's sister. What would you do to to make life turn out the way you want it to? Murder? Another great read. Hope to see more of the sister. Speaking of sisters a ending you didn't see coming.
This one didn't disappoint. I love visiting with "old friends" as well as new characters in the story. Great plot, it had me guessing until the end. I can't wait to read the next book!
I really like this series, and book #9 was definitely the best one yet. This book however was why to predictable, both you the murder was and also regarding who hopes sister was... It was a good book, but feel like this book was rushed.

Who killed Brad and why??? You never know what a cat will throw up, do you??? Some families are good and some aren’t!!! I enjoyed this story and recommend the book.
