Centuries' old secrets. A modern grail quest. A search for truth...
When archaeology student Hiram Kane meets a mysterious stranger who claims to be a descendent of the last British Templar Knight, what starts out as a quiet night in the pub with friends for Christmas drinks quickly turns into a modern grail quest and a lethal search for truth.
The problem is, they're not the only ones searching, and their rivals are armed and deadly.
In a race against time that spans the length of Britain, and sees Hiram visiting legendary archaeological sites and battling nefarious secret societies, the young student develops a taste for adventure and learns of his innate gift for attracting danger.
With history on the line and truths to be uncovered, Kane must lead his friends to victory in what rapidly descends into a fight for their very lives.
Englishman Steven Moore grew up by the seaside, thus his first true joy was the great outdoors. His innate love of travel and a degree in anthropology, archaeology, and art history help inform his fiction writing. Steven also loves painting, photography, and both playing and watching sport.

“Looking for a new favourite action-thriller author? Look no further”
A tongue in cheek (as far as the characters' names go, at least), update of a great Hiram Kane Thriller, Silent Knight tells of Hiram Kane's adventures as he embarks on another mysterious and often dangerous quest, sparked off by a chance encounter at a quaint Olde English tavern, dating back to the time of the Knights Templar and events taking place in the locality, after their return from crusading in the Holy Land, under King Richard 'the Lionheart'.
As Hiram addicts (like myself) expect, this 'Grail Quest', as with all his other adventures, quickly leads into strange territory and even stranger events, before the stunning denouement draws Hiram and his friends back to triumphant safety - for now!
Don't miss this incredible novel and the chance to get away from your Covid-19 fears and Lockdown Blues, with Steven Moore's Silent Knight, in his new A Hiram Kane Action Thriller - an Origins (The Hiram Kane Action Thrillers) series, that just gets better and better!
A brilliant addition to the magnificent Hiram Kane Adventures! The novel is an origin story : It gives you a look at Kane in his younger years, and you learn how he became the man you’ve read about in the previous novels (Or the Hiram Kane you are going to read about in further novels). It’s an intriguing and exciting adventure, and I enjoyed every page of it. Good for many, many re-reads !
I struggled to engage with or see the merit of this short novella prequel. To me, this was a very light over easy tale that doesn't really add context to the heroes origin and was a strange "grail hunt".
The next Hiram adventure is finally here….. or I rather say the first 😊
“Silent Knight” is the brand-new prequel novella to the Hiram Kane Series by Steven Moore, while a prequel in the chronological sense this is a full-length book at over +300 pages. As always Moore’s writing is both of superior quality and highly entertaining, his characters, despite being larger than life on occasion, are always realistic and relatable, while the plot captivates from the very beginning and keeps the reader invested until the very last sentence.
The book transport us back into Hiram youth, and his fateful encounter with an allegedly Knight Templar descendant, that leads to a full-blown adventure, with Hiram searching for the Holy Grain in all the right and wrong places throughout Britain’s archeological sites. Trust Hiram to order his pint with a mystery on the side 😉. The story develops into an action-packed, fast-paced, on the edge of your (reader) seat enterprise with Hiram dodging danger and cheating death in his very special way…. It a gift really
This is a great story specially if you belong to one of those groups
1) you already know Hiram and are anxiously waiting for his next adventure thus, what's better than get to know young Hiram, as a student and learn how he became the man/character we so much love and appreciate
2) you don't know Hiram Kane, I won't ask which rock you have been living under, that's between you and your rock. Just let me say this… it's about time you get properly introduced to Hiram Kane! And what a better opportunity would you ever find, that to get to know him from his very beginning, as an archaeology student embarked on his first great adventure? Pick the book, begin to read and thank me later 😉
Mjm 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to the Hiram Kane series!! Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2020 Verified Purchase I have read almost all of Mr. Moore’s books and have enjoyed every one of them. The Hiram Kane series is a favorite because the stories are well-written, the characters are deeply developed and down-to-earth, with plenty of action and adventure. I am pleased that I decided to purchase this book, because it takes us back to Hiram at university, where he’s studying archaeology, among other things. We find out how he met Alexandria Ridley, and they rapidly became best friends. We watch as Hiram, Alex and two other close friends, visit a very old English pub for drinks, where they become acquainted with an old bar patron, who tells them he is a descendant of a Templar Knight, but he doesn’t know that knight’s name. He paints an intriguing story of centuries-old activities in the local area, then asks the group if they would be interested in investigating to find out to which Templar Knight the man is related. They check out the man’s claims and confirm enough facts to send the group off on a “Grail Quest” to find out the truth. The story is a quick read which held my attention to finish it in one sitting. If you’re not familiar with the Hiram Kane series, this would be an excellent entry point, but watch out, this could be your “Grail Quest” to read the entire series!!
I was provided this book free of charge by the author and Storyorigin.com in return for a fair and honest review.
This was an interesting novel, with a good build and development of character(s). It seemed that the "adventure" that the main character and his cohorts were on seemed to build to a certain point and then ended rather preceptitiously.
As with all books, along with the praise comes the detractors ,neither of which took away from the flow of the book: (1) in the chapter titled "Holy Goats" page 2 of 3, I believe that there is an error in the flow of wording "...of the order original templar order..." (2) in the chapter titled "A Man About A Goat" page 4 of 5, there is a mis-spelling "Well, I'll tell you know that I don't doubt..."
That being said, I enjoyed the novel and got a good feel for what future adventures that he and his friends get into.
I would give this novel (or novella, as it seemed that the story was rather short, or maybe I just seemed to read through this quickly) a solid four out of a possible five stars.
As with all reviews this is merely my five cents worth (and you may agree or disagree).
written, the characters are fully fleshed out and very understandable. The novel was filled with plenty of action and adventure. The story takes place with a group of archeology friends meet an old timer at the neighborhood pub. They become acquainted with an old bar customer, who tells them he is a descendant of a Templar Knight, but he doesn’t know that knight’s name. He shares many a tale with the young students and then asks the group if they would be interested in investigating to find out to which Templar Knight the man is related. First they decide to check out the old man’s stories and are able to confirm enough facts for the boys to take on the task. The group decides to head off on a “Grail Quest” to find out the truth. This is fairly quick read which I find enjoyable. I recommend this book highly. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a prequel to the Hiram Kane mystery series. Hiram is a graduate student out on a quest with friends Evan, Alexa, and Luke. While traveling through the countryside on a trip, they encounter an old gentleman in a tavern one night who spins them a tale. He asks them to find out if he might be descended from a Templar. Hiram and friends decide to investigate while on their collage sabbatical and head towards the village the man names as his origins. We follow Hiram and Evan headfirst into history with a sunken cave entrance, opponents following their trail and attempting to overwhelm them. Mysterious codes, links to place names, and members of a secret fraternity known to only a few, drag the seekers through many locales and false knowledge. Good introduction of characters for the series. Good historical fiction writing with an archaeological bent.
On a Christmas break from school Hiram and three of his friends accept an old man's challenge to undertake a quest to discover his connection to the medieval Templar nights. In the days between the winter solstice and Christmas eve their quest leads them on an adventure across England and through history that they will never forget and that will change Hiram's life. I didn't know much about the Hiram Kane series before I read this story in an anthology, but this tale thoroughly captivated me and made me want to find out where the hero goes from here. A great read and a great introduction to Moore's hero.
Having read all of Hirams other adventures, it was going back to the very start, his first taste of a quest, adventure and danger. As a Masters student at Uni he and three friends meet a stranger in a pub who tells them an amazing story of Templar Knights. Would they believe the old man's story and take up his challenge. Of course they will! And so begins the thrilling first taste of what his life was about to become. Like his Grandfather before him. 'Hiram Kane Action Thiller' You will not be disappointed with this superb storyline that flowed from start to finish with adventure, danger, friendship and history.
A fun read. Always interested in historical fiction books and the Templars have always been mysterious. You will learn about some of the British Templar historical sites through this fun fictional adventure. I would have rated it a 5 star but thought the story was a bit short resulting in the "clues" being too easy to follow for our merry band of adventurers. A longer story could have enabled the author to introduce more difficulty and possibly incorporate more historical information but still well worth the read.
Stories that are told in a pub or around a fire, to ponder and decide to do more. With friends we meet Hiram while at the university and also how he meets Alex. His life and actions seems to have been set for him and the path his life was to be. Drinks at a pub, the tale an old man tells them, brings an adventure like none other. The Templars are always a wonder to read about, the excitement that we know more about them and to keep the secrets of them. An interesting, intriguing story well done.
I absolutely loved this book, it just made Hiram Kane more believable, with his history and how he met Alex.
The story was in times very Indiana Jones as I'm sure that is what Steve set out to do. Four friends go into a age old pub in Nottingham and hear a story about a long forgotten Knights and decided to embark on the journey to find out the truth. Is it just a story or is there a mystery to be solved?
Ever liked scavenger hunts? This is the best kind! The "gang" meet in a pub and find themselves on an amazing adventure taking them to various places in Britain. Templars, foreign enemies, hidden places, I really enjoyed it. The characters are great (and familiar!) and you get involved right away. There are no boring bits or slog to work through, its just action and fun all the way. Great read, and highly recommended.
This prequel introduces the reader to Hiram Kane and his friends. It takes place just before Christmas and the group meets a gentleman at a bar who claims he is the last descendant of the Templar Knights. Thus begins the adventure of the Hiram and friends trying to see if they can confirm this or not as they follow clues to multiple locations. At the end, Hiram decides to quit school and go on an adventure.
Hiram is finishing his "Master's" and it's almost Christmas, everyone is ready for a break!
You have Hiram, Alexandria Ridley, his friend from grade-school Evan and a friend from college Luke, who was the one that invited them all to the pub for drinks.
They met a gentleman who told them a tale of Templars and sent them on a quest.
Received as a review copy, this is an honest review. A fiery and brilliantly adventurous journey Hiram Kane and his friends find themselves mixed up in to unravel the truth behind secrets surrounding the Templar Knights. With edgy action and well done use of known legendary places; the author Steven Moore keeps showing his brilliance in crafting epic thrillers, highly recommended.
Thank you for the opportunity to read your book Steven
A well rounded thriller with the mystery, history, good guys, villians and a story to follow. Good strong central characters who work well together. No doubt future books with these characters would be worth the read as this was.
Didn't realize this book was included in "Dead of winter". Loved the story, the characters, the moments of suspense, those of elation and also some of hopes being dashed. Looking for more books of Hiram Kane stories.
Steven Moore’s Silent Knight is the launch story underlying Hiram Kanye’s adventurous life as an action thriller hero with an archaeology background. Oddly it is Book nine in the Hiram Kane International Action Thriller Series.
I have always thought there was more to history than was written. I like to think that this story is based in truth. Great opener can't wait to start the next book.
The second book I've rad in the Kane story. So very interesting in the search for ancient truths. Well written and played out, an enjoyable read even if it is short and over before I was ready for the "ending"!
Fairly quick read; story was engaging and kept my interest, even if I did disagree with some of the religious perspectives presented in the book. Good as an origin story.
I enjoyed SILENT KNIGHT. It’s the story of four graduate students who, on a lark, go searching for living descendants of the Templar Knights. What they finally find turns out to be bigger than they dreamed!
Good flowing prose. I know all of the places the story talked about, and enjoyed reading how the author intertwined those places into a fast moving tale.
This is a great book. I loved reading about the adventure that Hiram and his friends went on as they tried to discover the secret of the Templar Knights. I plan to read more of Hiram's adventures.
Plausible, engaging, fast-moving and intriguing. Characters developed far enough to where one feels one knows each of them. More from Moore is indicated!
