One morning, his “friend” Athena showed up on his doorstep with a young boy. At first sight, Preston realized that the boy is his son, which changed everything. Before, nothing could take him away from the bottle for a decade, being a father was the wake-up call he had needed to take charge of his life again and make the necessary changes…
In a discussion with Athena, Preston talked about his alcoholism and acknowledged that it was his choice to relive his best friend’s accident and death. Though I am absolutely behind the principle that we have a personal choice in how we handle situations, I would not go that far that one has control over all one’s emotions, at least not at the very beginning. However, I admire that a person, even a book character, who has let life get away, got a grip on his actions, realized that each person has the possibility to learn something from any given circumstance, and was willing to act upon it, no matter how hard the way is. If you ever asked yourself if drastic changes are possible, this story might be one you need to read. Full of unfiltered truths and ugly reality, it shows in a beautiful way how Preston finally got sober and found love.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
