So, I’ve been a Yankee fan since the 80s when I lived in NY. My mom took my sister and I to our first game in Old Yankee Stadium and parked on THE STREET in 1987 🤣 and then worried that the squeegee guy she turned down would slice the tires. Anyway all of that to set up the fact that yes, I am a fan. Yes I like to read baseball stories with details of game play.
Even so, this was about the most Derek Jeter-y book that could be Derek Jetered. The main character (12 year old Derek Jeter):
-is always respectful to his very wonderful family
-is always respectful to adults
-always studies hard
-always practices hard
-always says the right things to his friends
-supports his teammates even when they aren’t playing well
- always makes the clutch play 🤣
I was just giggling at how that is exactly how Derek Jeter probably was and is now. He’s just that over achieving guy.
I will say though, that my baseball maniacs in 4th and 5th grade will read the heck out of this. So: demographic met.
