Snakesblood Saga #3

Serpent's Bane

Rate this book
A woman forced to claim the throne. A man forced to flee it in exile.

Driven from his home by the war he couldn’t tame, Rune finds himself faced with two choices: serve the foreign land he’s imprisoned in, or die in arena combat. Desperate to return to the island’s aid, he’s willing to fight his fate until an unexpected ally promises the one thing Rune desires most—the chance to finally lift his curse.

As the fractures in Kirban Temple begin to heal, the promise of unity brings a new threat and draws simmering tensions to a new eruption. Without the Underling king at her side to quell it, Firal is forced to act alone—and fight the countless hands that pull the strings in effort to steal control of the island.

The adventure continues in Serpent’s Bane, the third book in the Snakesblood Saga.

Award-winning author Beth Alvarez lives in Memphis, Tennessee, along with her husband, daughter, and a very mean cat.

Once a visual arts major, she has worked as a freelance graphic designer. Against all advice, she makes her own book covers.

Reading The Hobbit at 8 led Beth to fall in love with fantasy at an early age. She later developed a love for vampires and the supernatural, which is unsurprising, given she never outgrew the goth phase.

In her free time, Beth enjoys drawing, hitting the road in her beloved Mustang, sipping tea, sewing for her Asian ball-jointed dolls, and making her prior-Marine husband spar in the kitchen for sake of writing more convincing combat scenes.

I found the entire series to be consistently excellent. The main characters, Firal and Daemon, are truly lovable, and I was rooting for both of them throughout. Firal, especially, is a clever, compelling protagonist. The writing is strong generally, but the characterization is standout excellent.

Read 1-3 box set. I was intrigued enough to figure out who the characters were, then wanted to reach the end of the set. While good, I was not enraptured enough to continue on the journey.
