Emily is an east-coast Canadian thirtysomething mom of two humans and a furbaby. Her lumbersexual husband doesn’t actually work in lumber anymore, but he still wears the plaid and the beard.
As well as authoring, she’s a freelance editor and ghostwriter. Her books range in genre from Romance and Erotica to Horror and Science Fiction, and everything in between. When she’s not writing and/or momming, she’s sipping espresso, crocheting, and listening to audiobooks.

This was such a fun read. I actually sat down and read the whole thing in one sitting. The protagonist, Lillian, is such a curmudgeon, but also so badass. We stan a woman who can weild a sawed-off shotgun. I also love how this book uses dude-in-distress, rather than damsel-in-distress. With all of the backstory with the gang who killed Lil's father and the possibility of buried gold and the corrupt Sheriff, there was just so much Western flavor. This is a short, action-packed, but ultimately, sweet romance, full of redemption, with themes of broken people learning to love again. I adored it <3
The story had me hooked from the beginning however it ended so early in the book it was like the beginning and not a complete story. I was very disappointed in the ending.
This novella was SO MUCH FUN! My only complaint is that it's the first of the series so I have to WAIT for more. The heroine, Lilian, is a veritable badass. She's got a dark past, but it's impossible not to root for her (and identify with her) as she curses and quips her way through the story. Davien, the hero, is the perfect foible to Lilian's darkness. He is utterly charming and relentlessly easygoing, with just enough of an edge to make you wonder what secrets he's keeping. Beyond the main characters is a rich, three-dimensional supporting cast and a perfectly hate-able villain.
This novella moves fast, and will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. I, personally, devoured it in one sitting. Lilian and Davien's chemistry is fun and funny, complemented by the author's dry wit, but both the characters and the story itself have enough depth to keep the reader invested throughout.
Bottom Line: I'll definitely be in line for the next one.

This is my first time reading something by this author. What a fun and exciting book! This was an entertaining and enjoyable read. A fun story full of great moments, this book will pull you right in and keep you engaged and smiling all the way through. The author does a great job of bringing the story to life with great characters that are lovable and endearing. Loved this story and I definitely recommend it!

Shotgun was fast-paced, witty, and fresh! The author has a true talent for creating characters that feel so real, you just want to be friends with them. Lilian is a refreshing leading lady with her crass talk and resilient confidence, and Davien is just the man to handle her. He is SO sweet and SO patient, not to mention SEXY.
The story is action packed, unique, and the dialogue between the characters is so well done, I just wanted more and more of this book! I am dying to get my hands on the sequel!

I fancied a change of genre and maybe trying an author that was new to me and this novella fitted the bill nicely. I don’t think I have read “western” before, though I have of course read historical and romance. The blurb made the main character of Lilian LaRoche sound like a strong, independent, kick-butt, no nonsense, sarcastic female, which I love reading. I find it irritating when the female characters have to have the help of a man to survive.
Lilian comes across as being totally content in her own company and perhaps a little socially awkward with others. Lilian has inherited her farm from her father who got in with the “wrong type” and ended up getting killed, leaving Lilian all alone on the farm. A lot of the locals, including the Sheriff want to get their hands on both Lilian and her farm as it is rumoured that her father hid gold somewhere on the property.
The men in town who should be impartial or even on Lilian’s side are Sheriff Emory Rhodes and Pastor Taylor but it soon becomes apparent that they are as bad as the local thieves and law breakers. No wonder Lilian is suspicious of anyone offering any type of help. Lilian is getting by okay, sure it’s a bit of a slog at times but she’s a strong, tough woman capable of doing the farm work herself, if left to it. The only person she is remotely attached to in anyway and allows anywhere near her is the young lad Finny who lives on a nearby farm. When a mysterious but determined man called Davien turns up and begins working and continues working despite Lilian telling him she neither wants nor needs his help. Despite not wanting to, Lilian soon becomes attached to Davien and when he is put in grave danger and she finds out about it from Finny she rushes to his aid.
I really enjoyed the banter that Lilian had with Davien and especially more so with Finny. It’s quite clear that whilst she may deny it with her dying breath she is attached to Finny and would miss him if he didn’t turn up and loiter around her property. Davien also works hard, expecting little or nothing in return until he gains Lilian’s trust.
My immediate thoughts upon finishing the book were that it was a good short novella, an introduction to certain members of those that live in and around Lazarus Town.
To sum up the novella was a fairly quick, easy and enjoyable read. There were occasions where I felt like I wanted more time for the relationship between Davien and Lilian to develop, but I guess it’s the nature of a novella where both the plot and characters have to be moving and developing quickly. The novella has made me curious about Lazarus Town and its residents so I am interested in reading more of this novella series in the future when it is available.

It's a story for your coffee break or lazy afternoon in bed. The tale is short but it has everything. We find ourselves in the wild west and so expect a sleazy sheriff, bandits, action, and in-between sweet romance. I literally breathed the story in. The main character grabbed me by my heart and wouldn't let go. A strong loner shaped by a hard life. Lil was very relatable to me.
I ordered this series in paperback because I love the author and I wanted to have it physically on my shelf, and I gotta tell you, the covers look even more beautiful in person than they do on the screen.
I don’t typically like western novels, at least I haven’t taken the time to read them. But I will say the writing in this novella is compelling. I found it amazing that the author was able to get everything to a T, including the accents of the characters. The plot has thickened and I enjoyed that this was a fast read that kept my attention and made me want to read the second installment. If you’re looking for something quick, with romance and if you like older settings, this is definitely for you!
Cliffhanger!#@ When I started this story I almost put it back down due to the writing style. The writing is very simplistic and not appropriate to the time frame that the story is set in. If it weren't for the foul language and attempt at graphic spice in the bedroom this would be much more like a YA genre book. Character development was okay and the editing is clean. It has some good parts so I gave it 3 stars. I have no interest in reading on, however.
I just don’t hAve words for this story. Starts in the heat of the story and very little plot formation. Although that is a true Novella. It just gave me first inclination that this was an old woman. Evidently not. Idk if I could recommend this it moves very quickly. And uses lots of unique wording
